Here is sort of a relist of this bass. I took the ad down last month because I felt that I liked the bass enough that I can keep it. But being that things are super tight right now, I feel that I can let this one go and not have [too many] hard feeling about it.
I got this bass here in the TB classifieds back in January or February, all original. But as a natural tinkerer, I couldn't leave it alone and had to make it feel and sound better to ME.
I have replaced the stock Artec 2-band preamp with a Bartolini 2.5 A/P 3-band EQ, wired for 9-volts. Instead of a blend pot, I installed a pickup selector switch. I never really "blend" my pickups...I like them either on or off; something I got used to with my first dual pickup bass, and L2500.
Anyway, the Bart preamp REALLY makes it come alive with more low-end thump than you can deal with (but that's adjustable, of course) and the selectable mid frequency (250 and 800Hz I think?) make the "mwah" really come out. This bass has more of that perpetually sought after sound that I ever heard a fretless have. This is probably the nicest sounding "cheap" fretless I ever heard.
I took it another step by changing the bridge. This is where some people may cringe, but I don't care.
The original bridge was a string-thru body type, but with really narrow string spacing (15.5mm or something crazy like that). I was just uncomfortable with it. So I got a 17.5mm heavy brass bridge (3-7/16" from B to C). Makes this bass a DREAM to play now. I really love the way it feels. The wider spacing also allows for the strings to follow the edge of the fingerboard much more nicely than they did with the narrow bridge.
The bridge I installed is a string-over-the-top style (quick release), which leaves the body ferrules unusable. But I'll take a more comfortable playing bass over a string-thru bridge any day.
I also installed a brand new set of DR Stainless Lo-Riders.
The fingerboard is wide, and the neck profile gets pretty flat above the 5th fret marker. It is silky-smooth.
Neck is as straight as a ruler, action is nice and low with a great neck angle to accentuate the "mwah" (thanks to me setting it up that way)
Pickups a re single coils with ceramic magnets. They can be a bit noisy when soloed, but what single coils aren't?
B string is tight and growly.
so here are some updated pics I took about a half hour ago
There are a few minor scratches, swirl marks and things of that nature....hey, it's a Bass Guitar that has been played almost every day for 9 months. What do you expect?
I'd be looking to get $275 shipped CONUS (I have about $200 worth of extras in this bass on top of the $170 I paid for it). I will do overseas, but there will be a shipping price added accordingly.
You'll get the original bridge, too...in case you like the narrow spacing.
PM me if there is any interest whatsoever.
Oh, forgot, it weighs about 9.5 lbs.
