Price drop to $850!
It has an alder body finished in classic, three-tone sunburst, with a maple neck and rosewood fretboard: 20 frets; 1.625” wide at the nut. The frets are in very good condition. I have only played it with flatwounds. As the pictures show, I added a bridge cover, and a pickup cover which I think provide a great, old-school vibe. It has Schaller straplocks which can also be used, of course, with standard strap ends. I only include the strap holders, no buttons available. The Fender molded, hardshell case is included, is also in very good shape and functions perfectly.
The P-bass pickup nails the traditional Precision tone. The Jazz pickup adds that classic Jazz bite and burp. Combined, the two pickups can be adjusted by the tone control to provide a third array of great tones in-between. The bridge is the same combination bridge Fender puts on Deluxe (active) USA Precisions, which permits top-of-body or through-the-body stringing.
I’ve taken good care of this bass and would call its condition an 9 out of 10. There is only one, tiny, pinhead-sized blemish that goes through the finish. Anything that may appear as a mark or a smudge in the pictures is actually a reflection or glare.
The fit and finish is excellent everywhere, especially on the neck and fretboard. The action can easily be setup any way you like. I’ve always been able to set my flatwounds low without any string buzz. Using our bathroom scale, it appears to weigh a little over 9 pounds. The luthier who worked on this bass (before I bought it) used a 3-way slider —ala Fender Stratocaster pickup controls—for pickup switching because he believes it is quieter than a blend knob. As far as I can tell, he’s right. It’s never made a sound that I’ve heard.
As I've stated before, not sure if I'm actually going to sell it, but just checking out what I could get for it. If the offer is good enough, it's yours! Hard shell case included. Also included: 4 Walnut Knobs (Push on, fits 6mm pots) Asking $850!
Trades I would consider: Any nice quality 4 string fretless. No G&L Tributes, No MIJ/MIM Fenders, etc.

This serial number starts with a Z on this bass. Also, the selector switch is present instead of the blend knob, and if I read right (correct me if I'm wrong), the Hot Rods were discontinued in 2001? This is 2004.
