i recently ordered this bass from Pavel..he made it EXACTLY like i wanted it...the feel is perfect...response is perfect...super smooth, plays ITSELF...As you can see, Pavel made this bass with a traditional style in mind...for those of you who know Pavels work, he only does SUPER EXOTIC basses...so this is the ONLY Pavel with this style...i wanted a vintage look and a vintage tone...for those wondering..the stripes i did after i received the bass..it is simply tape...i did my best to make it look good..haha...but if thats not your "thing" i will gladly remove..
here are some specs:
Flame Maple Top
Alder body
Rosewood fb
Hard rock Maple neck
70s spacing
Dimarzio ultra jazz (*read note)
obp-2 preamp
this thing is a MODERN, SLAP TONE machine..it has the perfect sizzle and great low end (being that u control setting on the obp2) Its a shame that im considering letting this AMAZING bass go...but i dont think i want to REROUTE the body or have Lindy rewind the current pickups.. SOLD
Thanks,
Mike X Zuniga

its just the LIVE broadcast Mix...in all its raw beauty :-)
the first part is with a pick.....and if you forward to the slow song its much more clear and you can appreciate the sound of the bass... http://www.youtube.com/user/pedrocur.../2/OXClSehA92I |

What I don't want to do is compromise this amazing instrument..
And yes it's just electrical tape..
I obviously wanted them painted on but decided to take the bass..and I did it to just get an idea of what it would look like..but It came out so clean that I just left it.. |

DiMarzio, Seymour Duncan, Bill Lawrence and Fender themselves have respectable offerings...if you want high end, I think Nordstrand is a popular choice. There's probably plenty more. I am surprised that Lindy Fralin doesn't have a drop in Jazz style. I am really not an expert, maybe some others can confirm or add to my suggestions. |

Maybe start here: "J" pickups discussion and comparisons.
If I were you I'd just keep it and hunt around for some pickups that satisfy you. You can avoid losing a lot of cash in this sale with a bit of 'leg work'. If there is another reason you want to sell it, then thats another story.
Good luck with whatever you end up doing.

he said the Ultra Jazz are probably being made to 4 string size but with 5 string spacing..He said thats probably one of the main culprits as to why i am not happy with the sound..not that they are bad..but just not what i am looking for..He said a pickup that size its almost impossible to have the space to make the right amount of turns to match a standard size single coil pickup...i checked with my american Fender 5 and the Lindy Fralins match up perfect..while the Ultra Jazz are Smaller in footprint...
after realizing the pickups i bought wouldnt work, i began to contemplate the idea of selling it completely and possibly looking into getting a replacement axe more tuned to the sound i am goin for...again..this is why this is a feeler...I had HonestAbe give her a setup from top to bottom and he left this bass incredible!!

I dont hear anything to warrant replacing pickups or getting a new bass. Sounds fine and your playing is fine. Full, clear, and fits the music. What am I missing? Unless the sound engineer did some magic mixing the bass, why all the fuss? I'd lose the racing stripes though.
If you like the Fralin pups, take them out of the shells and put them in the shells you have on the bass now. No need to rout any wood. The poles should line up fine. I did that with a Sadowsky set and worked out fine.
