This was my first "good" bass - I bought it used in 1993.
The pickups are passive EMG humbuckers (NOT the budget "Select" line). Tone controls are the standard Jazz-style V/V/T.
The finish had a crack when I bought it - hasn't done much in 16 years. Here it is, along with some chips by the neck pocket.
There are also numerous smaller blemishes you might expect from a bass that's been in use for 22 years. (IIRC the S/N dates it to 1987.) The frets have light wear - nothing drastic.
That's the bad stuff. The good news is, I recently replaced the bridge "claws" (the part that tugs the at the string ball end for tuning) with stainless steel ones after a couple of the original aluminum ones failed. (Very important upgrade, IMO.)
Original claws aside, the design & construction on this bass is super tight. It feels like something the US Army might have commissioned for use in combat. (Yet it is extremely light and well-balanced.)
The graphite neck definitely impacts the sound. In the right setting, it has nice authority with plenty of sustain. Here's some audio:

I'd love to keep this around for rehearsals, travel & backup - it's very handy and is built like a tank. But the look and sound don't fit most of my gigs very well, and since my stable has become too crowded, I figured I might as well put it on the block.
Included is a very ratty original gig bag (I advise to get a guitar gig bag) new Steinberger strings, some used strings & adjustment hex wrenches.
Asking price is $700, shipped to the continental US. Reasonable offers considered - super lowballing will not be necessary.
I'm trying to thin the herd so I
probably wouldn't do a bass trade (except maybe something cool & vintage and/or w/ DarkStars). I might go for some sort of tube head or preamp or power amp. Or a mountain bike sized for a big dude.
Thanks for looking!
