FS: Fender 2008 American Standard Jazz Bass V (5-string) - WARNING LOTS 'O PICS

SOLD!

FS: 2008 Fender American Standard Jazz Bass V (5-string)

This is a 2008 (first year run) of the American Standard Series Jazz Bass V. This is a great playing, sounding bass - comes with the awesome hardshell case & all the Fender case goodies that originally came inside it (Fender T-shape truss rod tool, polish cloth, Fender strap, etc).

The condition of the bass is very, very good. On a 1-10 scale, I'd say 9.3 for sake of discussion. Definitely way better than you're gonna find in a GC or most other places used (E-bay, etc). Extremely light playing wear, no obvious or deep scratches or any such thing happening in the finish. What little marks are there cannot be made to show up in the close-up photos. The instrument was played about 15-20 gigs & has been very well maintained & kept in its case when not in use. In fact, the vast majority of its stay has gone unused altogether sitting in its case. Rather than becoming a "closet classic", this should be played.

No custom adjustments or alterations have been performed (no nut work, etc.) with the exception of adding Dunlop strap locks & a different pickguard. The Dunlop strap buttons are included & I will also include the strap buttons that came with the bass. I seem to have temporarily misplaced the original pickguard although I need to look a little harder, as I know I did not throw it away. If I can round it up, I will include it as well - although it is easily replaceable, the stock guard is kind of plain white & rather bland looking, IMO. That said, the Brown Shell pickguard in the pics will be included. The pics also show a white pearl pickguard (not included) just to give an idea how it looks wearing a couple different guards.

The first 4 pics were taken just this morning - as you can see, not much has changed since it was brand new (pics towards the bottom). Again, it has been kept in fine condition.

Current street price is at $1400.00 for these basses brand-new.

I am asking $900.00 (shipped insured in CONUS only). I can ship outside the US, but shipping & insurance rates are the buyer's responsibility in addition to the asking price. I prefer PayPal, but I can also accept Postal Money Orders, checks.

Unfortunately, I am not interested in ANY trades whatsoever.

Thanks for the kind words & interest guys - it is a great bass for sure. I'd like to think that Fender's QC was particularly on attention since this was the debut year of the new AS basses. The build quality & playability sure feels like someone was paying attention to details.

I looked again ... If I raise the money, I could drive to St. Louis, buy it and take it on the ferris wheel at Six Flags. You know, make a weekend of it.

Beautiful hunk of wood there Stingray!!! That pickguard is a fantastic addition...nice touch. I'm curious about the weight and also, how would you rate the B string action...Lindsay Lohan (loose and lazy) or Meagan Fox (tight and tasty)?

I have the same year and model and color...def Megan Fox bro. Very even volume and tension across all the strings.

Does the body have a top. In other words is this a one piece alder body or might there be a special top to this. I love the look of the bass. beauty .. nice... . But I am looking for a Fender Jazz that had an alder body with an ash top. I think they made a few of these in the mid nineties. was just wondering if the newer fender regime may have done this at some point.

One last question. tell us about the truss rod.. graphite or other.

thanks.

I'll have to go with Megan Fox here, LOL! I would not call the B string loose. In fact Ed Friedland has a lot to say specifically about the B-string tension on this particular model in this review.

Edit: The weight is under nine pounds - 8.9lbs to be exact.

+1

Agreed Hyper-sloth - very even volume balance across all the strings.

Sorry to say these American Standards do not have an ash top, only an Alder body. It has Fender's Posiflex truss rod in it, along with supplemental graphite reinforcement bars in the neck for extra strength & stability.

Thank You Sir! And by the way Supertanker, I wanted to thank you for your insightful thread a while back on another piece of gear (PreSonus Studio Channel) - recently picked one up & it is fantastic. I really like it a lot. That thread answered a lot of questions I had about it, thanks again.
