Exclamation FS: Fender American Standard Jazz V with Sadowsky onboard preamp installed olympic

================================

It's a ... Fendowsky!?

Hey all,

I've been going through gear like crazy here and this is the next one on the chopping block: the new Fender American Standard Jazz Bass V in olympic white and tort guard. Bought it about a month ago and it's was a very sweet sounding bass. I can't believe how nice the pickups sound. Compared them with a Lollar set, and they were really up there! Everything stock, except I had the Sadowsky onboard preamp with VTC installed. The tech looked everything over and did a great setup job as well. Bass weighs about 9.6 lbs but doesn't really feel that heavy for some reason... I think it's because of the lightweight Hipshot tuners on the bass. I had an AV62 bass that weighed about that much and felt much heavier for some reason...

It's a late 2007 model with 2008 features, so the High Mass Vintage (HMV) bridge, better pickups (more vintage sounding), really sweet neck, lighter thinner finish (tech verified and showed me just how much thinner it really is) and lighter headstock tuners as mentioned above.

Note that the tech also applied shielding paint inside the cavity to reduce noise. It helped immensely! They are so-so shielded from the factory, but this really made it quiet. He also routed a battery box. Everything looks VERY OEM.

I'm really happy with how it turned out, but I just don't need a 5-string bass. Thought I could use it, but I play so much contemporary Christian music that I just can't use it like it should be used One thing that was nice about the 5 over my usual 4 strings is what I like to call "position" playing. For songs in the keys of E or F (and especially Eb, D, Db..etc.) it was really awesome to just play those lower notes and not have to go up the neck to play the rest of the notes in the scale. Not sure if that makes sense... For instance...say the song is in the key of E...well without a de-tuner (which kinda messes with you before you get used to it), sure you can play the low E by ringing out the 4th string (and playing the rest of the chordal tones by ringing open strings) but nothing compares to chilling on the 5th fret B string and just staying there!

The Sadowsky preamp was the only choice for me. IMO, it's the sweetest "Jazz on Steroids" tone out there. Pretty close the Aguilar OBP-1, but less drastic and thus probably little tighter in the lows, and more meaty in the trebles. Will Lee, Marcus Miller, and plenty of other big names use Sadowsky basses, I thought long and hard about buying an RV5, but decided against it because they don't come up as often as I'd like and when they do, they're usually around $2000, which was too much for me. About $1000 for the Fender, and a few hundred into the "Sadowsky" sound. It has a push-pull on the passive tone knob to bypass the preamp, in case you want to go passive for a song or session or something. Really nice feature there.

Anyways, It's in perfect condition as the pictures show, and comes with the newer SKB style fender cases and tools.

It was hard to decide what to put this at price-wise, especially since not many are sold on here (hard to kinda gauge the price). The Sadowsky on-board preamp runs $260 shipped from Sadowsky in NYC, plus the cost of a new control plate and knobs, plus the tech's fee for a few hours spent routing the side jack and wiring it all up, so I think this is quite a deal (still cheaper than a new one from Fender + all the extras).

I am selling to fund my recent purchase of a Dingwall Super J

$1700 $1500 shipped paypal. <=== Price drop'd on 2/26

I really like the grain of the rosewood fretboard!

And the colors on the board are really pretty. It's got a darker color overall, but the lighter browns in the treble side are actually very beautiful.

And it still has some of the factory stickers on it haah

Amazing job on the side jack install. Looks like it came from the factory as such!

The battery box also looks very OEM.

Having owned AV62 Fender's for a couple years before this bass, I forgot what a nice THIN satin (even a poly satin) finish feels like. It's very smooth and doesn't grab like gloss nitro (though, i did get rather used to the glossy nitro and it doesn't bother me like it used to).

It sounds freaking killer man! I must say, it came to me in immaculate condition for being a couple years old. I was so happy when i got it buddy I have to fund the purchase of another bass, so this one is kinda subject to the "last one in, first one out" rule

Fender 5 String Jazz

Man I know about these from that year, is this a really good one? Do you have mp3's? I'm looking for something like this. How's the neck on this bass? Anyway starting to look for something like this, does it have that Fender thang? Great looking bass, how long have you had it? Where you located?

Well it's a rather light one and I think the fit and finish is actually equal to my AV62 bass, and leaps/bounds better than the previous generation of American Standard basses. It's really one of the 2008+ american standards that get rave reviews here for fit/finish/quality, just that it's actually a 2007 model year.

No, sadly I don't have mp3's...gotta get one of those zoom recorders like KJung has...

The neck is as thin as my AV62 bass was, and I like the taper. Yes, it has the Fender thing definitely. Stock pickups, just the preamp is added. You can defeat the preamp (by pulling up on the passive tone knob) and it will sound the same as if the preamp wasn't in there at all.

I have had it for less than a month.

I'm in Southern California, like it says in the blue bar up above. C'mon man! haha, just kidding... let me know if there's anything else i can help with.

Uh, well, yeah you could put the passive control plate back in there (which i have for sale separately), but there would be kind of a problem of reconciling the side jack and the fact that the passive tone stack'd control plate has a spot already saved for the input jack.

Non-invasive stuff:

So... i.e., you could either 1) leave the side jack there but have it not be functional or 2) keep the side jack functional and plug up the "open" hole on the passive stack'd control plate with say an on off switch or something like that. Maybe a series/parallel switch (probably your best option). Or you could do the old session guy trick and put a nonfunctional switch there and when the engineer asks for more of "xxx" you flip the switch and wait for him to go "that's it! That's what i needed" and then you can laugh to yourself.

Also, there's the battery box, which you could just leave there and ignore i suppose..

Invasive:

Gut the battery-box, gut the side jack, fill with wood plugs, and refinish the whole body.

Bottom line, there is an active bypass on the bass man... why don't you just kick out the pre when you want passive tones!? Ha, but i suppose it was a valid question...kind of ...

Well, I thought it was a valid question that I tried to make as succinct as possilbe with no further questions beyond that. If nothing else, there's your bump.
Thanks.

Sorry to come off that way...i just thought it was kind of a "really?" question given the pictures and everything (clearly going back to "Fender" passive would be pretty silly and A LOT of work done correctly). Thanks for the bump and let me know if you are interested in the bass.
