Price drop to $1700 plus Fedex Ground/Home Delivery Insured Shipping. Geez, this is a crazy good price for this bass.
Someone had committed to purchasing this but changed their mind after I accepted their best offer, so I'm relisting it at the previously reduced price for a quick sale.
I realize I only have 1 positive feedback here on Talkbass, but I have two more pending here for Phil Jones Bass components I just sold. I also have over 1000 feedback rating on the 'bay, all positives (portchicago - user name there). Also, I'm in Chicago (Lincoln Park), so if you are also in the Chicago area, you can set up a time to see/play it in person if you'd like.
Includes Fender G & G hard shell case as shown in the photos. The case is also in outstanding condition.
I know I will regret this, but I have decided to sell my Fender Custom Shop '64 Jazz Bass Relic. I play almost all fretless right now (Rick Turner Ren 4 and 5, Elrick Platinum 4), and this is the only fretted bass I still have...the one I said I would never let go. I had quite a few Jazz basses, including a '78 all original (9/10) that was a dream to play with killer tone, and an American Standard with Aero pickups. I needed to start to thin the collection because of space (I also play and collect flamenco and classical guitars). I sold all my other jazz basses except this Custom Shop '64 Relic. I am only selling this to make space for a 5-string fretted Elrick.
This CS '64 jazz is everything you've heard or experienced about the CS '64 versions. Absolutely wonderful to play with that perfect vintage tone. And a gorgeous relic'd sunburst body. Not relic'd too much...just right in my opinion.
All original including all finishes. Truly an amazing bass with outstanding action and tone. Plays like a dream with a 1 1/2" nut width on a great neck...and has that vintage jazz bass tone. It has all the sought-after details of the '64 Relic Custom Shop Jazz... Relic'd finish, including the checking, '64 style tuners, correct pickups and pots, and a really great neck. The body is in excellent condition. The only thing of significance is the one ding on the lower bout edge that you can see in the photos. I'm honestly not sure if that was part of the relic process as it has always been there since I purchased it. The neck is also in outstanding condition with only a couple of very very slight marks on it. This one hasn't been played a lot so the frets and fretboard look outstanding. I have kept nickel flats on this one.
Please note in the photo of the neck pocket that there are the Fender Custom Shop stamps. The neck photos show the date/info stamps as well as the "relic" stamp and the Custom Shop stamp under the original finish marks. I also have other photos of the pots, etc if you'd like to see them, or I can take any other photos you need. I've had a couple of people ask about the white pickguard. This is the original pickguard that came on this bass from the Custom Shop. I realize that there is a version of this bass that has the tortoise pickguard. If you do a googlesearch on Custom Shop '64 Jazz bass Relic, you'll see this bass listed on several sites with the original vintage white guard. Actually, Bass Central currently has this version for sale for $3995.
