For sale is my 2001 MIM Fender Jazz 5 string in the strikingly beautiful and (sadly) discontinued Agave Blue finish.
This is the original run of the MIM Jazz 5-ers which are quite cool and have a few distinct design differences from the current version which I think make this bass special. They are:
-Stock Gotoh tuners were feature on the bass for finer tuning and lighter weight vs. the standard tuners used in the new edition.
-Headstock is a streamlined 5-in line headstock vs. the 4+1 featured in the current model.
-A long straight "three in the tree" string tree for the A-G strings vs the standard two string tree on the newer versions.
-The finishes on the old run were more varied. This one is agave blue. Current models only come in Sunburst and Black as far as I can tell.
The bass itself is a wonderful player and in really great condition. Good balance and not that much heavier than a standard Jazz 4 if at all. The neck feels good and fender really got it right on the string spacing. Does not feel cramped to play like some 5-ers.
Great traditional jazz tone wtih a really big and tight B string. Very impressive.
As for the condition of the bass, I would characterize this bass as being in remarkably great condition probably 9/10 or better. There are a small blems all of which are minor and pictured below but for the sake of being very thorough here is a description of each one...
There are 3 minor compression dings that do not expose the wood. Two are very slight and on and near the belly curve. The third at the bottom of the bass near the strap button towards the electronics side of the bass. There is a slight ding on the headstock and a curved scratch on the back. There is a slight compression ding behind the upper part of the back of the neck (closer to the headstock) and some light scratches on the back of the neck, neither of which are through the finish and could not be captured in photo. Again, all of these are minor blems which will be imperceptable to anyone standing a few feet away from the bass and photographed below. I would give total condition a 9/10 or better.
Asking price is $450 obo shipped to the CONUS. I do not have a case for this bass but I will ship it VERY well packaged and protected. See my feedback-- I have bought and sold plenty of gear and knock wood everything I have sold has arrived snug as a bug.
