FS: Fender MIM 5-string *fretless*

Sign in to disble this ad
It isn't every day that you find a Fender MIM fretless 5-string... because they don't ship that way from the factory. This bass was modified by a pro shop... frets removed and filled. It is beautiful bass in midnight wine and is currently strung with some old flatwounds.

The overall condition is very good as you can see in the pics. Nearly spotless... I can find only a couple tiny nicks, the most prominent of which is on the mid front of the upper horn. Even this one is minor enough that I can't get a good photo of it. The fingerboard has a little etching in it from past use of roundwounds, but I wouldn't call that a big deal either.

If you want to learn fretless or add one to your arsenal on the cheap, this is about as good as it gets. I played this for many years but not all that often... the miles on it are fairly low. I am selling only because I bought a much more expensive Roscoe fretless. Ships in a really old beat up hard case that barely works, but it will keep it 100% safe in shipping. I'd throw it in a gig bag for outings if I were you...

Asking $450 plus $50 to cover most of shipping but willing to entertain reasonable offers. (Anything <$300 is not even close to reasonable.)
Price drop to $400 plus shipping... and SOLD!!!

I will take any form of payment that clears. Prefer no fees on your end or mine. Will ship promptly on payment once cleared.
No trades, no international shipping (Canada might be OK) since the shipping would cost too much compared to the value of the bass.

Thanks.

Don't mind when the S/N is blocked but what year was it birthed? That would matter to me.

It's an MZ0, so "born in" year is 2000. Mighty fine condition for 11 years old. Not even a year's worth of mileage.

Yes, it is. To the fingers the board feels like one smooth surface from end to end. The luthier who did the work did a top notch job.

No epoxy, just plain rosewood. The fret filler is a plastic similar to that used in the bindings around necks and bodies and therefore quite durable.

How's the B string on this one?
It looks like new and the color is killer.
I just don't know if and in what way it affects a bass when mim.
Might snatch it anyway, if you'd ship Toronto.

I don't think anyone ever accused Fender of having the best or worst B string in the business, and I'd say this one is average... it surely isn't floppy or out of character compared to the other strings, but I wouldn't plan to live on that string either. I am comparing to especially good basses... MTD 35", F Bass 34.5", Sadowsky. This Fender isn't quite that good, but for 1/10 the cost I think it's darn good.

String spacing is Fender standard (19mm). No problem shipping to Canada... I will pay the first $50 of shipping... you pick up the rest.

9.8 pounds
100% stock aside from the fretless conversion
Has old flatwounds on it now because that's the sound I wanted, but you can string it however you like.
I'll throw in a set of black La Bella tapewounds if the buyer wants them.

On hold pending local sale - I have a student who is possibly going to purchase. And he decided to buy it. Done deal. Thanks for the interest, everyone.
