Well, it all comes down to this. I've been saving for my dream home and we've found it!
Now it's time to scrape together the closing costs and to do that, I have to part with a few of my lovelies.
First up is my Fender Reggie Hamilton. It's in pristine condition and has only been gigged once. It weighs 9.5 lbs on my digital scale.
I have often said that I think that the Fender Reggie Hamilton is one of most versatile basses around. My mantra has been
(all together now), "If you have to have one and only one 4-string bass, this is the one."
I actually did an upgrade on this one and it was money extremely well spent.
I added the Audere JZ5D preamp and it's a perfect fit (physically and tonally) in this bass. This particular Audere gives the standard High/Mid/Low Z modes but it also provides a twist. It has two additional settings that really work on a P/J ...
* Low Z (neck) / High Z (Bridge)
* Mid Z (neck / High Z (Bridge)
These settings emphasize the individual character of of P and J pups and by panning between them, you can quickly get to the extremes of what each of them has to offer.
I've been extremely pleased with the end result. Forgetting for a moment the J vs. P question, this instrument simply sounds like
"bass" ... with a huge range of tonal options from deep & dark to thin & sparkly.
What a great bass --
