FS/FT: 1977 Fender Precision, Black/Maple

The chickens are coming home to roost on this summer's impulse purchases. Info from Quadzilla's ad is quoted below; the only thing to add to it is that I put flats on it and had my luthier give it a set-up/intonate it to account for the different strings. Oh, also, we've all agreed that this is a seriously nice-playing-and-sounding '70s P-bass. Not all of them are; this one is.

Trades? Just an old all tube head (V4B or the newer V4BH, Sunn 200S or Sorado, you get the idea) or a Berg NV215. Got both? I'll take 'em and give you cash to even it out if that's how it works.

Players P, but all original from what I can tell. Pots date '76, pickup dates '77, neck is actually dates '75, but Fender was known to commonly use older necks in bodies (they grabbed whatever parts were in the pile during assembly).

Body has her share of chips and dings, but it's not terrible and I've seen MUCH worse. Fretboard has a slight bit of "finish lifting" on the treble side (G string), but it will not get worse as this bass was given the full treatment by Phil Jacoby (local luthier that used to be with PRS for many years). Missing twp pickguard screws right now, but I have extras and I'll put those on before shipping.

Phil treated the small strip of lifting with CR to seal it and prevent more lifting. It does not effect playability (purely cosmetic). He also gave the bass a full setup, repaired a crack in the pickguard back by the input jack (a very common occurance), etc.

I'm probably being overly thorough in my description here, but I prefer to do that than leave something out.

Tuners work well, although have a bit of surface corrosion (also common). Pickup pumps out strong tone and no issues there. Pots also work well. Action is low, free of any buzz and neck is straight. Just something else to note here, for whatever reason, the serial number was taken off the headstock years ago. You can hardly see any evidence of a serial # ever being there (you have to look very closely for it). It was done "cleanly" in that it was NOT scraped or gouged off. Looks like some kind of paint stripper, etc was used. You can tell it was done many, many moons ago as that part of the headstock is also aged. Bass may have been "hot" back then, or the original owner did not want the serial # there to make it look like an older P (the older ones did not have the serial # on the headstock), who knows? In any case, it was prob done 20-30 years ago...

She's one of the better playing late 70's P basses I've put my hands on. She may not be a museum-piece, but the important stuff is there - plays awesome, sounds awesome, IS awesome! You also won't have to worry about getting a ding or scratch on this one.

Reasonable weight. Guessing 9ish lbs. Oh, only non-original thing that I'm aware of are the strap buttons. Currently has Schallers. Comes w HSC (non-original).

Not at the moment. I was selling a six-string on here and it didn't go anywhere, and then I just snagged a Metro HPJ yesterday, so I'm maxed out for now.

It's a "B" neck.
