FS/FT 1981 Washburn B40 Matsumoku Neckthru Closet Classic!

I picked this up off of Craigslist this week on an impulse buy. The owner bought it in 1981 and it's been in a closet since the early 80's. the bass weighs in approx 8-8.5 lbs on the bathroom scale and is a lot of fun to play. I've cleaned it and set it up with a new set of strings. There are some pretty impressive features on this Washburn bass, including:
Neck through construction
String through body design
Hefty brass bridge
Brass nut
Quality tuners
DiMarzio pickups? (Sounds like my Kramer which has them but I've since been told that they are NOT)
Vintage style smaller fretwire (like a 60's jass)
Black binding on freboard
Well balanced due to long upper horn and surprisingly comfortable to wear

Another thing that I found interesting, is that underneath the backplate, there is another metal cover installed over the pots - shielding perhaps??

There is a ding on the bottom horn, otherwise, this bass is literally a "closet classic"

I'm selling because it's so similar to a bass I already have (Kramer DMZ 5000) and I could use some diversity or the $.

I'll link more photos in a few min.

Asking $600 $550 $500 shipped In a quality used Levy's gig bag (or OHSC that smells of smoker's home).

As for trades, I'd love a fretless that's similar to this. Otherwise, Kramer lumies, a Markbass head, etc. see my profile for an idea as to what I play.

Thanks.

These are cool basses, as I have a similar one (though I believe mine has a bound top...haven't looked at it in a while.) They play REALLY nice. The pickups are good, but they are not DiMarzio's, at least I don't think. I thought they might be until one went dead in one of my old Washburns, so I had to take it out. The pickups are not cast in wax with the magnets at the bottom the way DiMarzio's that I have seen are. These appear to be more like (as far as construction) typlical Fender style pickups that easily slide in and out of the plastic covers. I actually put DiMarzio's in a one of my old Washburns and it really made a difference, even though, as I said earlier, the original pickups are pretty good. Note that like a few other mid 80's Japanese basses with a PJ configeration, the J is the same size as a Fender neck J. (My Daion has the same PJ sized pickups.)

Bump for a cool bass!

I stand corrected - thanks for the info on the pickups!

Hey Twocan-Man!

Is this a 34" scale? How is the neck & action, can it be set fairly low with no buzz?

Thanks!

Hey Gary! Yes on the 34". I got the action on this very low w/o buzzing. It plays remarkably like a Kramer, but has more of a woody / vintage tone in comparison (of course I think any bass would sound woodier in comparison to a Kramer ) For anyone interested, I can always demo the bass for you on Facetime or Skype.

Now comes with either the Levy's gig bag OR the original HSC. Disclaimer - the case came from a smoker's home and smells like it.
