FS/FT 1984 Ibanez Roadstar II RB924 (Canada)

Sign in to disble this ad
Not many of these around, made in Japan for only 2 years, ’83 & ’84. Price dropped to $450 US dollars plus shipping. Comes with a gig bag and an extra set of barely-used MTD strings which were installed on this bass. It currently wears DR Nickel Lo-Riders. I will ship to anywhere in North America, Canada Post/USPS insured with tracking. Paypal is good.

Trades considered (plus or minus cash, negotiable):

- Markbass LMII or LMIII head
- Carvin BX500 head
- G&L El-Toro, 1st-gen SB-2, or Mahogany-bodied L-series bass

Birdseye maple top over alder with cream and black body binding. 5-piece maple neck with nice figuring, dark rosewood board, birdseye top on the headstock. This is a passive bass, has a P pickup in a humbucker housing and a 16-pole J with a 3-way coil switch. These pickups are hot! They have individually adjustable pole pieces, like a G&L. Mechanically and electronically this bass is in excellent condition. Everything works great, tuners are smooth, good truss rod, straight neck, good pots, good output jack, light fret wear. The bass is clean and ready to play. Weighs about 9.5lbs.

The tone knob has been replaced; the volume and blend knobs are original. Has a couple small dings in the back of the neck at the 1st fret and the 11th fret. Has several other minor dings, two small cracks in the top, light scratches and finish wear like you would expect to find on a bass this age. The worst flaw is a dent in the butt end with a chip in the top. This was repaired by a previous owner and the repair is pretty good other than a bit of overspray, see pics. Doesn't detract from the overall look of the bass imo. Sounds bright with rounds, Green Day / Blink 182 type of sound, but the tone control works very well so you can roll off the highs and get a mellower sound.

Here are the pages from the 83/84 Ibanez Catalog on this bass:

Thanks for looking.

Edit: I've made three recordings with this bass and put them on Youtube. They're my first attempts at home recording so be nice! Links:

WOW! I GASed over that bass in the catalog for a LONG time... I've got too many other commitments to even consider buying it, but that is the make/model/color of a bass in my top 5 'will own someday' list.

Good Luck on the sale!

Ha...I had one of these. It was my first decent bass when I was a kid. I loved it - it looked (to my eyes) like a Rickenbacker! Got stolen on tour...very cool old bass.

Just my luck. Here I am living right in Hamilton and I've blown my budget for this year. That's a beauty and I wish I could buy it. Good luck.

Hey man, can you please tell a bit about the neck. As far as radius and string spacing.. Since you're the EBMM guy is the width closer to Stingray or Sterling? And is the radius vintage style like Jazz Bass or flatter?

Thanks

Both my EBMM's are fivers so I can't compare.

The Ibanez neck is slightly wider than a Jazz; 1 9/16" wide at the nut. String spacing at the bridge is 19mm. I don't have a precise radius gage but it looks to be 10", not vintage but not flat either. The profile has enough meat on it that it's not super-skinny. It's a nice playable neck.

I always thought it had a ric flavor as well... P bass body with ric edges/binding with a gibson headstock... Beautiful hybrid.

I have one almost exactly like it, it is a killer bass. The P with the splittable Soapbar is a great combination. I've got 8 or 10 very good four strings, this is one of my favorites, hugely underratted.
Those stock knobs are still very available btw, if you want to make it more correct.
