FS / FT - 1987 Warwick Thumb NT / Status S2 hybrid

Sign in to disble this ad
Here is my Prized Warwick Thumb. But it's not your Everyday, run of the mill Vintage NT Thumb. This baby has been Majorly Modified!

The electronics are an 18 Volt system from a Status S2. The 2 humbuckers sound great, and the preamp is a Status 303 unit.

Controls are as follows:

The active circuit on the S2 are able to provide a huge range of tones.

Master volume and pickup blend are standard, as on all Status basses, with the addition of both bass and treble, cut/boost plus a variable frequency midrange.

This midrange control works in conjunction with the 3-position switch :

In the centre position the midrange is 'flat'
With the switch down the midrange is boosted
With the switch up the midrange is cut

The central tone pot alters the frequency, somewhat like a parametric, between 300Hz and 3KHz with a fixed boost and cut of approximately 6dB.

So, bassically it Vol, Blend, Cut/Boost for Treble & Bass, and a 3 position toggle for the mids, and a control to find the range that suits you best. Very Powerful & flexible!!!

The neck is AMAZING! And the thinest Wenge neck I have EVER seen. 26 frets!!! It had LED side markers at one point, but I'm not sure of the history on those. The connection wires on in the bass, but I have not been able to get them to come on. The original 9 volt battery lights a Blue LED on the bass when it is plugged in. The other 2 batteries run the Preamp.

The body was treated to a coat of Robins Egg Blue. It's not bad, but there are some points along the transition marks that are not perfect.

Old School headstock, non-Volute neck!

Good Frets!

Where the paint meets the NT...

I want $1500 for this baby shipped in a TKL HSC.

Trade offers that might interest me would be Fretted 4-strings including Vintage Fenders, Other Warwicks, Alembics, other Higher end basses, etc...

You know you want this One of a Kind THumb Bump!

Just an FYI / IMHO note. A lot of people generally complain about the MidRanginess/Nasaly sound of the NT thumbs. This thumb can dial In or Out that Midranginess with the 3-way switch & Mid Freq Control. So if you want a Thumb with More Nuts than Nose, than this might be the Bass for you

how does it compare to a normal thumb nt? I love midrangy nasaly sounds from warwicks =) Think that finish can be sanded down? or is it covering up the original knob holes?

Personally I think it kicks a Stock Thumb in the Nuts. You CAN get a Very Nasally tone out of it. (Boost Mid, cycle Freq knob towards 2KHz, Treble +3, Bass neutral) But you can get rid of it easily as well.

What you might find under the finish is anyones guess. It's been there a Loong time. Florin at the Warwick Forums thinks the mods and/or the finish may have been done at the factory. It's definitely a Pro Mod, and I guess they've done a few one off customs like this in the "Hand Made" days. The finish is on there Thick.

I've got some Serious Interest in this bass right now, so we'll see where this ends up in the next couple of days.

Ah! I didn't recognize you out of PM's-Ville!

Yeah, let me know what you think of the new P-Bass, and we'll go from there. There's a Tasty Pedulla offer out there as well...And someone had the Balls to offer me $1234.56

Cheers!
