I had this posted late last year with a bunch of interest and no takers....
Thought I'd try it again as I'm in need of another 5 and this baby gets no love...
Up for your consideration is a 1990 Hamer USA Scarab bass. Purchased off of evilBay in 2006 from a seller who described it as "excellent condition". Alas, things are not always as they seem and this was what I personally would not consider "excellent".
This bass is in structurally and sonically EXCELLENT condition. No issues with neck, truss rod, etc. Frets have much life left in them (greater than 85% by my conservative estimate). EMG P/J with active 9V. Hamer adjustable bridge (nice!!!).
Cosmetically, she is nowhere near pristine. Obviously, a bass of this extreme shape and vintage is bound to have a few dings and dents, and she is no exception. Finished in a beautiful dark red metallic, she has her share of superficial dents, dings, and scrapes. The most prominent ones are as follows:
- 1/2" scratch, through paint, upper front bout, retouched.
- 1/2" scratch, through paint, upper rear bout, retouched.
- 1" linear scratch, through paint, rear "belt buckle" area, retouched.
A myriad of minor dings below the P pup's and between the P and J pup's.
A significant item which the original seller did not mention was the finish checking. This is cosmetic only, involving the lacquer, but definitely worth mentioning IMHO. The finish checks are linear and multiple, involving the back of the neck. Not immediately noticeable, difficult to photograph, but definitely there. Just wanted to give the potential recipient full disclosure, a courtesy which was not extended to me when I purchased her.
Ships in a Coffin case modified to accommodate the extreme body shape.
