Up for sale is my 1996 Tobias Classic 5 bass. It is of Gibson owned vintage (sn= 4554), but I have never noticed any poor craftsmanship issues with it at all- guess I got a good one. Anyways- I always thought it was mahogany, but Gibson/Tobias rep after viewing a picture of it, says it is likely Walnut/Wenge/Walnut.
She has the curved top Bartolini pickups, and originally had the 9 volt XTCT preamp (same as the older pre-Gibson basses). The bass is currently outfitted with Bart NTMB 918 5.4 preamp (with active /passive push/pull volume pot), and Bart BC5CBC Pups. Original equipment will be included with trade as well as the original Tobias hardshell case. The TCT preamp and original pups are worth a few hundred alone-
There is hardly a flaw on it- except for some finger popping wear by the G string, and a small ding at the 7th fret (low B side). I flattened out the ding with a heat source, so it if nearly flush, however the small scar remains visible.
It is a beautiful bass, and lightweight just shy of 9 lbs (on my bathroom scale). I just could never get "my sound" out of her- So I'm considering swapping her out- or selling her.
My trade thread wasn't successful- not that some good basses weren't offered, just not the right ones for me.
For trades I'm looking for lightweight 34" scale Fretted 5's. I’m pretty full on 4 stringers, but wouldn’t rule out a vintage Fender jazz. Not interested in any 35" scale basses- 34" ONLY please and only 18 & 19mm (preferable 19mm) string spacing- no narrow spacing basses for me-
I’m also interested in a Mesa Venture 212 combo… Asking $2500 shipped to the 48 states.
Thanks for looking
Tom
