FS/FT: 2008 Fender MIM "70's Jazz w/ twisted neck

Reporting with updated trades as the old thread was getting a little cluttered. Will also try to consolidate all the info in one post...

I bought this 2008 Fender MIM "70's Jazz Bass" used last fall from Guitar center, thinking it was in need of a setup. The reality is that it has a twisted neck, and needs either the attention of a luthier, or a new neck. Bass weighs 9.4 pounds on my bathroom scale.

By twisted, I mean that there is a hump between 4th and 5th frets on the left side of the fretboard (under the D and G strings). The twist only becomes apparent when you really try to straighten the neck - with some relief all of the notes come through fine.

All that said, the bass is still playable with higher action. In fact, it's a very good sounding jazz. I just don't have the time of $$ for a project. My sale price is set as though the neck is essentially worthless.

Price is a pretty firm $300 shipped in the continental US, will discount for local sale around the Hudson Valley. Open to shipping internationally if buyer pays actual shipping.

Willing to consider trade for an older GK 400) plus some cash or trade with some of my other for sale items for a decent 5 string (4 or 500 range). Will ship bass taken apart, and include a nice Fender gig bag.

I actually can't find a ruler right now, but I took a blackberry picture using a penny to give some sense of how high it actually is.

Personally, I don't really feel like I'm fighting the bass unless I'm trying to play faster runs in the upper register, but I know not everybody is the same.

Tom,

As an FYI, Fender should replace that neck. I had a "noodle neck" 70's and my Fender dealer actually got them to swap the whole bass out. Took about 1.5 weeks. They will want photos.

I do love the feel of those basses.

Bob

Bob - I had assumed that Fender wouldn't help out since I bought the bass second hand, but there is certainly no harm in asking! Honestly, I reallư like the bass and would prefer to hold onto it if possible. Thanks for the heads up.

Update - I spoke to Fender today, and they informed me that since the bass was purchased used it was out of warranty (which I expected). They referred me to a local Fender authorized tech and suggested that they would work with the tech to replace the neck.

I called the tech to discuss, and to make a long story short, am setting up a time for next week so he can take a look at it to determine if it does indeed need the neck replaced, or if there is some other repair option.

In light of the new information, I'm going to hold onto the bass until he can take a look at it and make that determination.

Bob - thanks again for unintentionally pushing me down this path. Everybody else - I appreciate the offers and will update this thread next week.

Hey Tom,

I have a MIM Fender jazz deluxe 5 string that would consider trading towards your bass plus some cash or if you have other trade stuff that would work. i don't mind driving from Albany.

Thanks for the offer. I haven't really been a fan of the MIM deluxe Fenders I've played, so I'll pass.
