Howdy folks,
A beauty/workhorse here. This bass is a classic sunburst American Fender precision made in 1977-78. But wait, it gets better. The bass has been “upgraded” in the typical style (I didn’t do it). (1) The pickups have been changed to active EMGs. (2) It has the awesomely-named bad-ass II bridge. (3) The pick guard is not original (the new one is metal \m/ ). (4) It looks like a bit of neck pocket work was done because the wood looks clean (see pics). I had the Jong at
jive sounds (great luthier in N. VA) specifically check this out and he said it was fine. He set it up and it plays like a dream. I purchased the bass ~17 years ago from a music shop in Arizona. I played it regularly but then it sat unplayed for ~12 years. I’m pretty certain it’s a ’77 based on the serial #S748906 (you can check
Fender’s website). I’ll be posting pics of the instrument, the serial #, and the end of the neck. The stamp on the neck looks like 0103-1471 indicating P bass (01) fretted maple (03) 14th week (14) of 77 (7) stamped on monday (1) (thanks coreyfife). the nut width is 1 3/4".
Playability:
So, it’s not 100% original but the bass plays fantastic. I just don’t care for the P-bass sound. I’ve tried and tried but it’s just not for me. Please don’t throw peanuts at me.

I recently got a stingray and love it so the P-bass has to go. The P has been recently setup and has new flat-wounds on it. I can’t stress enough how easy and smooth it is to play. I love the neck and playability but not the sound.
Condition:
The bass has been a workhorse and shows the typical wear. The only atypical damage is a nick near the 4th fret (shown in pictures). The nick looks deep but the area is actually very smooth and I’ve NEVER noticed it while playing. There was an occasional scratchy sound from the volume pot but the luthier that set it up, cleaned it and it’s been fine since. Small amount of routing (shown in pics) for the battery area. The bass weighs 10 lbs and comes with a beat up hard case (no handle).
