Transblue Mockingbird from 1981. I thought this was a 79 when I got it. According to Lorne at the BC Rich forum its from early 1981. Most likely January.
Pickups are the original DiMarzios (as they switched from creme to black by 81)
This body shape for a Mockingbird is called El Monte (the more you know!)
Its in great shape for a 30 year old bass. There are some chips and scrapes that a prior owner filled in with blue ink (or maybe magic marker) The worst ones are photographed. The rest are pretty much small dings.
The bass is 99% original. Whats not? The rubber tip to the pickup selector switch and the strap locks.
The worst stuff done to the bass was another hole was drilled in the upper horn for the strap lock right next to the original hole. The bottom strap pin might have been moved too. I can't tell but there is ink on the bottom around it. Full disclosure

Lastly there is maybe 2-3 screw holes on the back of the bass in a cluster. Maybe someone tried to put another strap button back there, I don't know. They colored it with blue ink too so this was probably done a long time ago.
The bass sounds and plays great. I really like the preamp. Controls are volume, preamp volume, tone, pickup selector, preamp on/off, bass boost, treble boost, bass swell. Its not as intimidating as it sounds. I dislike most preamp because there is a lot of tweaking. This one is rather easy to dial in what you want and the tone control gives a lot of variation in addition to whatever switches you've got on. And then the pickup selector.
Why am I getting rid of it so soon? Its really just not for me and my band doesn't like the way it looks. Sorry but I'm a sucker for peer pressure.
Its not that heavy for a neck through (10lbs or less) and it balances fairly well for a Mockingbird. Its not neck dive city but its about parallel to the floor when wearing a strap.
F/S at $2300 OBO
Trades?
Run some oddball basses by me. I also like Rickenbackers, Stingrays, and hollowbodies. Maybe something modern sounding too, run it by me!
