Hello TB,
I'm casually putting this classic precision up on the block because some other gear needs have arisen. This AC KBP-4 has a serial number 0008 and Jimmy says that it was originally built for and owned by Jerry Barnes (Chaka Khan?) in 2004. It has the homemade AC p-style pickups and the older-looking headstock with Hipshot mini-clovers. I suppose you could call it a "vintage" AC since it has such a low number and is among the earliest batches of basses that Jimmy built in New York. It's just over 8lbs and oh so well-balanced in terms of string-to-string tone and weight. I've played Pino's, CS '59's, 70s P's, 60s P's and this is hands down at the very top of the thumpin' heap. Bar none. I thought my old Glaub and 1960 p sounded great, and this one blows them both away. This AC is light and comes in just over 8lbs.
The fingerboard is a darker, beautifully grained Indian rosewood, the body is classic sunburst on dry alder, and it has a thin Nitro finish, with a bone nut. It is strung with Jamerson flats at the moment and really, really hits hard while remaining very playable and perfectly intonated. A different set of strings will certainly transform the tone; as such, I can give you some rounds, if you like. This AC KBP's neck has what Jimmy calls the "vintage taper." I believe that's the equivalent of a '62 jazz bass, but I would have to measure it in order to give you the exact dimensions. I have the original AC gig bag for it. I'm told that if it were made today, it would more or less be this model:

And since it's 5 years old, it has a bit of honest player wear which includes a small surface scrape and a little finish wear on the back of the neck, a slight chip or two in the front bottom corner (you can kind of see it in the pics), a pretty good dig just north of the front contour, and minor swirling/marks on the pickguard and body. Nothing really severe, but I want to be completely up-front.
As much as I love this bass and can't really imagine myself finding a better precision, I have recently been asked to play in another project for which a good jazz and a loud combo are going to be a better fit. For an outright sale, I'm looking to get $2500 OBO (Paypal or M.O.), shipped in the CONUS. I will ship internationally, but only if the buyer will cover the cost.
In a trade, here are some pieces that I'm in need of (straight swaps can work or cash from you or me will of course be added into a deal, depending on what's being offered):
- Mesa Boogie Walkabout 15" Combo (or 12", but prefer 15")
- Sadowsky Metro or NYC UV70, RV-4, or HP4 (rosewood neck preferred, will consider maple too)
- Lakland JO4's ""
- AC Jazz 4-string (passive or active)
- Other high end j's and/or loud light combos (nordies, fender CS, mike lull, EA's, genz benz, etc..)
Thanks for checking this out and feel free to ask me any questions you might have. Cheers!
