FS/FT $1600 Aries Bovidae 5- wood sandwich w/spalted maple top

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi I have an Aries Bovidae 5 string. I came across this bass at GC here in Indy- and couldn't pass it up- I still love it- but it seems that when I go for a 5 ( which is rare) I tend to favor my smith.
This bass has a Spalted maple top, multi laminate neck and body, walnut, maple, wenge are among the woods used.
The bass has Aries pickups, and an Aguilar 3 band w/18 volt set up and a mid boost switch. This thing has hands down the fastest neck I have played ( and I have many if you look at my profile) it is the same spacing as the small Ken Smith spacing (17mm??) I can still get in to do thumb work, but its narrow at the nut which I really like since I have little hands. Bass is nice and light 7-8 lbs (sorry I can't be more exact my scale sucks) balances perfectly on a strap- The only issue with the bass is that the mid pot needs replacement as it sometimes makes some scratchy noises- I'll be glad to have a tech fix it prior to shipment or pay for yours to do price is $1600

I would entertain some trades- NO WARWICKS PLEASE- but I am kind of picky as to what I am after-
If you have a nice Smith you don't like I'd be glad to throw the warwick fretless I have advertised in the deal is well.

These basses are very obscure in the states- one dealer the bass loft had some of them- blew them out below costs on ebay a while back- the only other sources is Luithers access group. I got a quote for a similar bass from Aries and it would cost aprox $5500 for a new one

I'm digging it like crazy. Unfortunately all I have is a Warwick Thumb 5 tuned EADGC. And you said "no Warwicks" pretty emphatically. Haha.

Good luck with the sale/trade.

Thanks for the bump- sorry I've owned three Warwicks- trying to sell the last one now- other than my 87 Streamer, never got along with any of them...they are nice basses, just can seem to get comfortable on them and the MEC tone just isnt for me.

it reminds me of my smith- but without the midrange burrppyness....(forgive the term). It sits really nicley in the mix when used in church and in my cover band- I have a bit of trouble cutting through with it in my orginal band- but bear in mind- I play with two guitarists with Mesa Tripple Recs, and get burried even with my Spector NS-2 and a Mesa 400+ (not due to lack of volume-) I just seem to need TONS of mids to get through in that band- I'd say the bass has a much useful midrange as my NS-2 and F-Bass- but the Smith tone seems to work best. The pickups are very organitic sounding and let a lot of the woodiness of the bass come through- while the Aguilar OP3 is high fi though its highs are usefull alll the way up- slap tone is KILLER- fingerstyle tones are vesitle, though I think it really shines on the low endy warm type of old school tone- which is not at all in keeping with the "look" of the bass. One other positive atribute is the that the B string is super tight and there is not a noticeable volume increase or decrease from the E string to the B string- I REALLY like that aspect of the bass hope that helps!
