FS/FT Conklin GT-7 7-string

Sign in to disble this ad
I got this bass in a trade. I already have one that has been heavily modified, and I wanted to have a stock one as well. As it turns out...they sound very similar, but my other GT-7 has a custom finish so I am going to keep that one. This bass looks to be totally stock and barely used. The frets and fretboard look almost unused. I also cannot find anything wrong with the bass at all. There is even plastic on the control cavity covers.

I can take more pics if you like.

$725 shipped CONUS...I will ship internationally, but the price will go up as I will have it professionally packed and shipped. The price will depend on where you are located.

I am interested in trades of Dingwall or Rickenbacker (+cash). I am also interested in a Marcus Miller Jazz. There may be others, but I am looking for things that are unique.

Trade straight up for a Zon Concorde 4 stringer? It sounds like a P bass on steroids. I believe its the same one that has been passed around here like 4-6 years ago. Both are in the same value ballpark. And I'm in Chicago which saves the irritating of shipping.

Hi there,

What is the string spacing at the bridge? (Like, between string centers -- a P bass is 19mm, a Roscoe is 17.5 -- like that.)

How would you characterize the B string? (So few are really super-focussed and defined, huh?) Is it average, woolier than average, or real special?

Thanks in advance! (Btw, this is very tempting, so answer quick if you can! :^)

The only reference I can find to the actual string spacing is 14mm. That seems small to me. It is definitely tighter than a 4 banger. I don't find it to be a problem with the limited amount of playing that I do on it. I am primarily a four string player though.

I think the B with the Conklin Snakesins/Dean Markley SR2000 Will Lee strings sounds nice. It doesn't seem overly floppy. It seemed to sit pretty well when I played it. However, again, I am not an expert on Low Bs. For someone like me who is an occasional ERB player.....I like it. That's why I ended up with two

I sure appreciate the quick reply!

I'm skeptical that it could be 14mm, it doesn't look that extremely tight; I've never seen a bass like that (except maybe the original Fender Bass 6, which was spaced like a guitar!)

Could you please take a ruler to the bridge, and make an approximate measurement between string centers (use your eye)? If you only have an Imperial units ruler, then fine, give it to me in 32nds of an inch.
Sorry to request this task, but Conklin's website does not specify.

I appreciate it,

- Peter Wilson

I'll have to double-check when I get home....
This thread on TB has someone mentioning it as 17.5 which sounds more reasonable

Ok, great. If you can confirm the 17.5mm (= about 11/16"), then I think you've got yourself a sale!
