Lakland DPLE II in mighty fine shape. There is a small swirl near the bridge side of the tone knob. Not visible enough to photograph. Other than that - flawless. Functionally perfect. Setup with D'Addario Chrome flats for low action - maybe lower than a heavy touch wants.
Neck is straight and stable. Truss goes both ways easily. I've had it setup with Thomastic Super Alloy rounds which are light, soft and ride too deep in the nut for. I've also strung it up with LaBell Deep Talkin' flats of the very, very stiff and heavy variety and now Chromes. 1/8th to 1/4 turn of the truss and everything stayed put. IMO - Any neck that will hold those Labella's has to be considered stout!
10 lbs on the bathroom scale so between 9.6 and 10.4 as the scale only goes to .5 lb increments.
Sounds incredible... and to give you an idea of what that means ...
The screen shot above shows three wave forms recorded using an ART Tube Channel directly into ProTools. The settings on the Tube Channel were EQ & Compressor bypassed. So it's flat and dry. The gain was set to bounce off the red but not often. It's a good, clean reference track.
Track 1 is the DPLE II with Chromes.
Track 2 is a Sadowsky P pickup installed in an 83 MIA PBass with BAII, Brass Nut and Chromes. Same gain setting as the DPLE II.
Track 3 is the Sadowsky P but with the gain brought up maybe even a little beyond the level of the DS.
The Sadowsky is no slouch but as you can see (it's my #1 player these days afterall), next to the DS, it is compressed and rather low output. Maybe another way to express that would be that the Dark Star is incredibly dynamic and strong as an OX ...

The bass ...

more pic's shortly.
The story ... Ok so this bass was sold a couple of weeks back here. it was shipped well packed and padded in a G&G Fender P Tolex & wood case. Well Fedex managed to whack the box hard enough to break the case. The recipient didn't want the claims hassle so I got the bass back last week. I'm in the claims process with Fedex now and they agreed to pay for a new case.
So if you were wondering - why all the string changes ? I wanted to be sure that there were no structural issues with the bass. So I took those LaBella's up to pitch and left them on for a couple of days. After being satisfied that the neck is OK - I did the setup with Chromes.
