So I just picked this up locally when I had no business doing so. I've never gotten along with 35" scale basses, no matter how hard I try - My hands are just too small. Plus I'd never seen one second hand, so I thought I'd try her out.
This was custom built for the original owner (whom I purchased it from) by Roy at RS Guitarworks in Winchester, KY. It was one of the first basses out of the shop and doesn't even have a decal on the headstock. The fretboard is stamped with what I presume is the serial # and the original owner's initials.
This particular bass is a 35" scale relic'd 5 string with a swamp ash body and an amazing birds eye maple neck/fretboard. Has 18v Bartolini NTBT-918 Preamp with Bart pup's. Controls are Vol/Blend/Bass/Treb. Hipshot style tuners which are the smoothest I've ever encountered. Also has a Badass V bridge. The nut width is 2" and the string spacing is 19mm at the bridge. Currently strung with some unidentified flats that I had laying around. She plays and sounds fantastic. I just can't physically handle 35" scale.
The bad: - This bass bas been played heavily and it shows. The relic treatment disguises some of the honest wear, but it's plentiful.
- At one time this bass had a string-thru option. This is no longer the case with the Badass bridge. For some reason, a bit of the work is visible below the bridge. See photos at link below.
- The clover on the G string tuner is a bent just a bit. The shaft appears straight and this doesn't have any effect on it's stability.
As far as a sale price goes, I think that given the condition,
$600 shipped is a fair price. Regarding trades, right now I'm interested in only traditional styled 4 strings and possibly cabinets. If you've got something to offer up, just send me a PM.
I've taken many photos and they can be seen at
