Thumbs up FS/FT: faux Fender CS P-bass (SX)

Sign in to disble this ad

I put this look-alike SX Together specifically for a casual blues project I was doing and now that I have my 5-string custom '51 TeleP i'm not playing this bass at all. If I allow it to hang around I know I'll keep tinkering with it. I feel it's as far as it needs to go visually to capture the vibe I had for the bass when I started the project.

Originally it was an SX SPJ-62 3TS. When it arrived I promptly tore it down, gave it a full fret leveling and recrowning, new Bone Nut, and full copper shielding as well as new 250k pots and cap. Wired Vol/Vol/Tone. Original pickups remain as I feel the SX pickups are pretty damn good, and for 'my needs' don't warrant dumping the money into replacements.

Added Hipshot Vintage Bent Bridge, and 3-string string retainer, precision bridge cover and is strung up with a barely broken in set of D'addario Chromes that still have quite a bit of bite to them. Stock knobs and Bridge Cover are slighty relic'd but nothing heavy... just look like they've seen some scuffing and use.

The bass is what I consider a mild relic. SX Headstock was recontoured to resemble a Tele headstock. Finish was removed from entire neck and refinished with ReRanch Vintage Tint, and clear nitro over that. Neck has the appearance of slight wear from playing but no heavy use as with many relic's. Black and metallic gold Fender logo under clearcoat, and Fender Custom Shop logo under clearcoat on back of headstock. Original SX Tuners have not been relic'd yet.

Finish was knocked down on the body similar to a Highway One bass, then polished again slightly. Not shiny, but not dull. Pickups, Knobs, Bridge cover and pickguard all have the appearance of general use, but not abuse.

The bass overall has the feel of being lovingly used over the years. Out of slight guilt the bass still wears it's SX neck plate, and I embedded a disclaimer under the clearcoat on the heel of the neck, and in the body's neck pocket stating what model of bass this truely is, and that it is in no way a true Fender instrument.

- No specific target regarding bass trades but prefer to stick with 5-strings.

Sell outright for $350 shipped

Will ship with insurance in a Road Runner Polyfoam case. (added $25 to cost for adding this case rather than gig bag for better protection when shipping)

Nice photos - it's easy to see exactly what you'd be getting here. Not to be too picky, but do you have a photo of the entire bass, head-to-toe?

Thanks -

Sure... just forgot to put it up.

And here's a nice clear one before the extra relic work was done to the body.

Howards Feed and Wax on 0000 Steel Wool and a light touch (Which is also what I use on my rosewood necks once a year)

The faux crack lines are steady work with an exacto blade, then some graphite rubbed into the lines to mimic grime. Not over the top and only shows close or at certain angles.

A couple people have said they want it. One says he plans to pay friday.
But no one has locked it down with payment or a deposit to hold it until full payment.

I've been burnt in the past by holding instruments for people who say they'll buy it on X date and then disappearing, so until someone pays full or puts a non-refund deposit down on it... it's still for sale.

So far the copyright "po po" have not been here. I feel as long as you disclose and do not try to sell as a Fender you are OK (and as long as nobody down the road tries to).
