I’ve decided to (possibly) trade or sell my Alleva-Coppolo LG4 Classic.
This is only a feeler at this point……
Like all A-C’s, this bass is amazing!
The serial number has a T suffix. The T means Transition. According to Jimmy Coppolo, he “cut the neck or body (or both) in NYC and completed the bass in California.” This one was built just in time for the 2009 NAMM Show. The actual build date on the neck plate is 01/01/09.
Detailed specs for this model can usually be found on the A-C website, but since the site is currently under construction, the general specs that I can recall are:
Body: Alder
Neck: Maple (Reinforced??)
Fretboard: Indian Rosewood
Nut: Bone
Inlays: Synthetic
Color: Fiesta Orange with a matching headstock
Finish: Nitro
Pickups: Alleva-Coppolo Single Coil
Preamp: Alleva-Coppolo 2-band, with VTC
Radius: 7.25"
Frets: 21 Vintage Small Frets
Tuners: Hipshot
Scale Length: 34"
Weight: 8.2 lbs.
Case Included: Yes, Protec Contigo Bag/Case
I am willing to contact Jimmy Coppolo to confirm any additional specs, if necessary
The LG series basses evoke the classic 60’s jazz bass vibe, but with flawless build quality. The pickups are amazing in passive mode and the preamp is warm and somewhat understated. There is also a VTC in passive mode.
Since this was a NAMM bass, it has some minor wear that is really only noticeable under close inspection. The rare Fiesta Orange finish is amazing and definitely nails the classic 60’s vintage vibe.
Here are pics that I received from Jimmy prior to purchase as well as some current pics of my own. Jimmy’s pics more accurately reflect the actual color of the bass. (I need a better camera!)
As for trades, I will consider comparable high end, vintage-styled, 4-string jazz basses only.
(Basically, it must have a pickguard, 4 in-line tuners and can’t have a 5th string)
For trades, I am especially interested in:
1. Alleva-Coppolo (another LG4 or RA4 only),
2. DeGier BeBop*
3. Celinder (J Classic, J Vintage or J Update)
4. Lakland US* (JO preferred, but may consider others)
5. Pensa-Suhr or Pensa (with Pickguard)
6. Something comparable that I may not have thought of*…….
*Trade deals would be +cash, where appropriate.
I am not particularly interested in:
1. Sadowsky (they’re great basses - just not my thing)
2. Mike Lull (love them, but I sold one some time ago, so I’m not looking to get another just yet)
3. Fender (love them, already have what I need)
4. Atelier Z (love them, already have what I need)
This bass was priced new at $4695. If I decide to sell, the sale price is $3600, plus shipping.
CONUS only via Money Order or Cashier’s Check.
Let me know what you’ve got for trade.
Thanks for looking!
