FS/FT FEELER: Carvin SB4000

After a long and painful process I'm putting up my recently acquired Carvin SB4000. It is every bit as good as the reviews.

This is the passive model with the new J99a pups, alder body and ebony board. Maple neck has to be the best I've had or seen. All black hardware, matching headstock with black logo. The bass simply has an excellent passive jazz tone. High quality bass that I really don't want to let go.

I've had for about 2 months. I've used it for practice and one benefit gig. Solid solid bass.

Why am I thinking of selling or trading: well ......

- I haven't been able to move the two fenders I have on the board
- I have four 4 stringers
- I'm on a quest for a nice 5 string
- I am in the middle of a major home project

One of my basses is a custom Epi LP bass that isn't going anywhere soon. One of my others is a Fender Aerodyne which I will keep if this goes as my main 4 stringer.

Asking $625 plus shipping. Includes Carvin OHSC. I have the black PG and the tort PG - both included. Bass is as new. It's had minimal and gentle use since I've had. I don't smoke.

TRADES: I'm hot for a Warwick Corvette 5 or an Ibanez Prestige 5. I really like both basses for different reasons. I realize the necks on these are near polar opposites but I've played both and like each for different reasons.

Other 5 strings considered (SB5000 or B50 would be really cool ) STRONG preference for black or dark stain finish.

See next post for my home project and the reason for my sacrifice.

The current project and my current side yard. I've had 2 floods in my basement over the past 4-5 months. The project is already over budget so my extra cash for a 5 string is gone.

You can't make this stuff up........................

Run any trade ideas by me. I'll be pretty picky but the worst I can say is 'no thanks'.

I will trade up or down for the right bass. I have an ibby and warwick located so sale is always good :-)

Thanks. I think it' fair :-) It's what I paid, not including the new black pg. I have a line on a prestige, a warwick and a nice jazz 24 all in this price range. Help me out :-)

Most folks hot for the SB4000 are looking at the cool finishes they come in. I'm just a boring guy and like black.

I love this bass, but want to have an active option. Thinking out loud here: Do you think one could drop the tiny Aguilar OBP1 into this bass? The three pot setup should work with a stacked bass/treble, v/v or v/p, but I guess the only real issue would be were to place the batteries Hmmm... maybe it wouldn't work.

It could work. You would likely need to route the back for the battery. I don't know if there is enough room in the cavity now. I can take a pic.

I'd take it to a tech and route for the battery...this is a great bass at a killer price!

It has a great passive tone. I'm more of a passive guy though so I am biased. I need to keep things simple.

I'll have to apologize - I'm pretty specific on trade offers, but keep them coming.

All pm's replied. Some great offers. At this point I really can't trade up. So it has to be even or down. Thanks.

No really looking for an amp, but could always be interested in the new GK MB210 or a nice Markbass 210 combo.

Sold my Aero and BB. Taking this off the market since it's my only standard 4 stringer now.
