I can't believe I'm even considering this, but here goes...
I have 1997 Modulus Flea Bass 4 string with the Lane Poor pickup. Here are the specs:
- Alder body
- Bartolini NTBT onboard preamp
- Lane Poor pickup
- Hipshot Extender (Drop D on this bass is ridiculous) I have the original tuning peg, too.
- Original molded SKB hardshell case
No functional issues whatsoever, but I will disclose everything. It has some player wear. Just some nicks and small finish cracks around the neck joint (all big flake finishes are prone to that) and headstock, but no gouges or anything like that. A little corrosion onn the screws. You'll notice in the pics that the pickup mount is cracked as well. Apparently, this series had springs that were too strong causing extra pressure on the pickup mounts. It would pop occasionally, but I got it fixed at Eric's Guitar Shop. It won't pop out anymore since he changed the spring to a foam mount. The internal preamp and battery used to also not be mounted, but Eric fixed that as well. No fret wear.
There's also an autograph by Michael Manring and Abe Laboriel Sr. I can remove it if you want.
It does not have the truss rod, and frankly, I prefer it that way. The 97 models have a much more sleeker neck shape than the later ones which have a clunkier U shape to it.
I've had this bass for 10 years now and it has been my baby since then. It's the one sole piece of gear that hasn't changed. I've never even had to change the setup once. It simply plays amazingly...
Oddly, it's really versatile in that it's so easy to play, you really can manipulate the sound with your hands. It works so well for thrash-funk obviously, but I use it for almost exclusively for recording slow ballads because of it's sustain (that 7th fret D on the G-string NEVER dies!)
But there is a fretless I'm really needing. Cash is king of course, and I'm willing to check out other offers, but I'm really looking for a good quality lined fretless.
