FS/FT Feeler: Pedulla Hexabuzz

Hi Folks:

UPDATE: Price drop to $1800 shipped and insured. This neck is just too wide for my left hand, and it's time to get it to someone whom it will fit better than me.

I recently acquired this essentially spotless Hexabuzz, but I'm not sure it's working for me. I love it's tone, playability, and looks, so no problems there. It's a 6-string and I'm accustomed to 5-string basses. The neck just feels too wide for me. The 19mm Pentabuzz feels comfortably wide...the Hexabuzz with an extra 1/8" of width feels uncomfortably wide. It just doesn't fit me right. For an outright sale, I'd ask $2000 negotiable. Includes the original Pedulla hard-case.

Trades:
Zon 6-string fretless: I've heard some clips of the Zon Sonus 4/1 fretless, and I really like it. It's got that same hollow composite neck + phenolic fingerboard vibe that my Steinberger Synapse fretless does (and I absolutely love that tone, even moreso than the Pedulla's tone, but it's only available in a 5-string). I realize I might end up with a neck too wide again, but everyone talks about how comfortable the necks on the Zon's are, so I figure that might be worth a shot. I'm not that familiar with the sonic differences in all the Zon models, so you might have to offer up some clips if you've got 'em.

Roscoe LG-3005 fretted: I'm thinking I'd prefer the Bart pups + 3-band Bart pre with mid-selector switch, but if you've got a fretted LG-3005 of any flavor, I'd consider it.

Indeed. In darker light, it looks more of a wine color...in bright light or camera flash, the red hues kinda glow making it appear much more in-your-face bright! It's definitely a VERY nice finish...thanks!

It did indeed, and I was the buyer. A friend checked GC's Blue Book and said this was worth $2000-2100 in a private sale, so I listed it at that price at his urging but added "negotiable"...I'm not out to just make a profit by flipping a bass. (In fact, I've told the folks who have PM'ed me that what I really need to get out of it is $1760 + shipping, so I might as well just say that here, eh?) I love the aggressive tone of this bass, but I think the neck is just too wide for me, it's making my left wrist hurt after playing it for a while. I have $1760 in it (actually, a couple dollars more...that's the Ebay winning bid plus shipping plus insurance plus a Paypal fee.). If it's not going to work for me, I do want to pass it on so I can move on to something that will fit me better. So, I'm going to set the price to $1800 shipped and insured (US only please!). I'll update the first post with those numbers.

I don't suppose you have any sound clips? I'd have to sell my Rob Allen though so I'm not sure I want to do that.

Actually, not yet. I just cleaned it, put new strings on, and did some string spacing adjustments. I might track a clip or two by something next week. (I do have to say that new lighter gauge strings, the string spacing adjustments, and just lowering where the bass hangs on me have improved the left hand comfort factor by a noticeable degree.)

In the meantime, go take a listen to this fellow's clip of a Pentabuzz...the Hexabuzz sounds exactly the same (slight difference with the J-style neck pickup instead of a P-style neck pickup, but it's really splitting hairs I think.)

Sounds like exactly what I want in a fretless. Thanks for the link. Love my RA but couldn't keep both that's for sure. I'm just kicking tires at the moment but do wish that I could snap it up now.

I didn't mean to imply that you are flipping it. Sorry. You should definately set the price a little higher to reflect the new strings, etc, and there's nothing wrong with some amount of profit if you got a good deal to begin with. It looks like a very nice bass and a great deal at the price you are asking.

If I recall, that clip on myspace was all bridge pickup, highs slightly cut, mid-boost switch on, lows flat. My wife described it as sounding like a "farting hippo". I thought that was a great description...it's quite a unique tone.

The possible trade discussion from above doesn't seem to have materialized...just FYI.

No apology necessary comrade...your post just made me realize that it probably looked to folks like I was simply flipping for a profit. I certainly don't turn down a small profit when it lands in my lap (helps balance out the small losses that inevitably occur when trading gear around)...but in this case, I'm more interested in moving on to a better fit for me than I am in making any profit on it.

I'm a little hazy on the measurement talk. Is this some sort of extra wide spacing, or is it what would normally come on a six string Buzz/MVP?

It's the normal 6-string spacing for a Hexabuzz...3-5/16" neck width at the 24th fret marker and 17.5mm string spacing. It's just not "normal" for me...this is my first attempt at getting comfortable with a 6-string.
