PRICE DROP: NOW $1200US.

Picked this up last year, but I've been too scared about scratching it to play it! The bass that I traded for it is actually up for trade on the classifieds right now, and seeing it yesterday made me think that it may be time to let this bass go to an owner who will play it as much as it deserves. I'm not the original owner, so here's the description from the gentleman from whom I acquired it:

Well I have a Tune Twb4 flamed maple original fretted bass. It's a seldom seem but much adored bass by those in the know. Tune started making these basses about 1988 (I got mine in 1990) with the help of an Alembic designer. They were top end then. They were built part in Japan, part in California. I got the first one in the UK, so it's a bit rare. Tune then went bust in 2002, but a Korean company started
making copies of them, but they're not the same, at all! Mine is original. They have become kinda collectable. I suspect mine would be worth oh...$1400 on the market but it's the time it would take and all that. It's a players bass. It is perfect, unmarked apart from a little polish wear on the bridge. I know basscentral are selling a 6 string with pearl inlays, identical to mine for $3700! Go figure.

It's also worth noting that the bass will be shipped in a custom made (semi-flight? I'm not familiar with the terminology.) case that was provided by the previous owner. This thing is solid. He claimed that he had "literally jumped up and down on it" with no problems. I've never tried the same thing, but I don't doubt it. For the bass and case together, I'm asking $1400. I kind of need the money, but despite my better judgment, I'm going to say that trades are also kosher. I'm particularly interested in fretless basses, but I'm willing to consider anything.

Thanks for looking,

Yobo

IIRC,all Tune Guitar Technologies guitars were made in Korea.

There's been some confusion as to whether the bass was or was not made in Japan, so I e-mailed Tune last night with the serial number (6 digits total) and got this in response:

"Hi Jackson,

Thank you for your e-mail.

First of all, I'd like to give you an information about TUNE BASS.

Please noted that we are the owner of " Tune" brand for world market except Japan.
We have Trade mark registration for Europe, USA and Korea.

Actually Tune bass was designed by famous Japanese bass designer Mr. Hatsun Fujitany.
And WSC in Korea was a major supplier for Tune basses.

Along the way, Mr. Hatsun passed his right of Tune brand to Mr. Choi , our president of WSC.
Because he trust Mr. Choi is the right person who really understand how to build Tune based on the original specification.
During this process, one of Mr. Hatsun's staff asked him to leave the right for Tune brand usage in Japan and Mr. Hatsun granted this to him.

In the meantime, it seems that the serial#106XXX on Tune bass is made in Japan."

So the bass was in fact made in Japan and not Korea. On a side note, why do people censor their serial numbers when posting? I am only doing so because it seems to be the norm.

Tune ID's

There's a very simple way to determine whether a Tune bass has been made in Japan or Korea:

*Japanese Tune's have a 6 digit serial number w/o letters

*Korean Tune's have a 10 digit serial number that starts w/S
