For Sale or Trade: Quilt maple top 24 fret Fender Jazz 5 string with a John East U retro Preamp. These basses are discontinued from fender and pop up every now and then. I think this is the poor man's Sadowsky with 34" scale, 19mm spacing, and 24 frets. Specs for the bass are here: Fender Deluxe Jazz Bass 24 V 5-String Bass Guitar Review
Pic are here More to come) http://www.flickr.com/photos/ltonsax...7627804507140/
Asking $600 plus shipping from Maryland. I will include the original preamp and leave on the extra strap button that has been added to balance the bass. The bass is in great condition and well cared for. The tones are versatile and the lows are very thick. The stock bass lines pickups and this preamp really make this bass sing.
Trades: Carvin B50 or Carvin SB5000 plus cash on my end. Must have a maple neck and maple fingerboard. Would consider other 5 string basses that are 34" scale and 19mm string spacing. Will also consider a trade for a Genz Benz shuttle 9.0

Out of curiosity, are the pickups both 3.7" or are they Fender sized? If they are 3.7, Sadowsky pickups fit and it would DEFINITELY be a poor man's Sadowsky... but with more tone shaping!

I doubt very seriously you would want to change them once you hear the bass but to each his own. I was thinking about doing some Nordy Pickups when I initially got the bass, once I changed the preamp that was the end of that.

The U Retro can change quite a bit in a wonderful way, I was just saying, if you're a stickler for THE Sadowsky sound, and they'd fit, you're golden. And it appears that they would! Nordy makes both, so those would fit, no matter what...
BUT THEY DON'T NEED TO because the SD's do sound fantastic.
This is a killer deal that made me lose a little sleep last night. A sweet bass with the best preamp ever made and it's $600!!! Someone buy this before I get myself in trouble with my fiancee

The B string is really good, the string spacing is wider (more room for slap style) and there are 24 frets. There are only 3 fenders 5 strings that have knocked me out. The Marcus Miller V, 2011 American deluxe and this bass.
Saturday morning practice bump

| | Love one woman; many basses | | Join Date: May 2010 Location: Long Beach, CA | | | Mmm, tobacco burst 5-string 24-fret... GAS bubbles are forming... btw the headstock looks nice from the front too - I really like the gold lettering... The biggest complaint people have about these basses is the preamp - and I see that has been taken care of nicely with the U Retro.
Bump for a beauty of a 5-er...
