For trade or sale is a 2005 Fender Precision Bass Special Deluxe. It has three great features. First, it has much greater tonal versatility than a regular P-bass. Its preamp and extra controls allow any combination of bass, treble, and mid settings to work with any combination of neck (P-style) and bridge (J-style) pickups. Second, it is very comfortable to play, weighing in around just 9lb, with an alder body and a neck that has the same nut width (1.5 in.) and profile as the regular J-bass neck. Third, it has classic P-bass good looks, with its timeless black/tortoiseshell/rosewood combination, its spaghetti logo, and its vintage-style threaded saddle bridge. Pickguard is a brand new nitro 4-ply by the widely respected Pickguardian, about as close as one can now come to a 60s Fender original.
There are no issues with this bass. Build quality seems high for MIM, electronics work well, action is very comfortable, neck is straight, frets have plenty of life left in them. Cosmetically, I would say it is at least an 8.5/10, with just a few minor blemishes in the woodwork (see rear headstock pic for the most visible example) and none at all on the front of the body or neck.
The bridge pickup has been upgraded to the Samarium Cobalt Noiseless (better tone, no coil hum at all) used on the US-made version of this bass. The bass is strung with TI Flats and comes in a nice TKL hard shell case. I will also throw in sets of very lightly used DR Sunbeams and D'Addario rounds, along with 3 more ornamental black-top chrome knobs, and the stock gold anodized pickguard.
I paid $450 for this bass less than 2 months ago, without the case, the tortoiseshell pickguard, or the pickup upgrade. My dream deal would be a trade for a Mustang or a Musicmaster, since I have decided to switch to short-scale. Failing that, I am asking for just the $450 I originally paid, plus shipping, to CONUS only. Though I have no feedback rating here, I have 100% on Ebay:
