I never even put this bass in my profile, it was THAT forgotten about by me! I originally bought the bass in '96 and shortly thereafter had luthier Carlos Carbajal of Mexico City modify the neck so as to have the first 5 frets fretted, then the rest fretless. That involved removing ALL of the frets, lowering the area of the first five frets and installing those 5 frets. The end result is 2 octaves (BB to c) of fretted bass PLUS the normal range (E to ff) of a 4-string lined-fretless bass. I replaced the bridge pup with a Carvin HB5. I used this bass as my main fretless, using the fretted notes as a "reference" as to what the tuning should be . . . When Carlos made and delivered my first "real" fretless 5-string bass, I immediately stopped using and forgot about this "bi-sexual" bass . . .
I should note that there is a small crack in the control area that was there when I bought the bass originally.
If there is anyone interested in buying this bass, it DID help me make the transition from playing fretted to playing fretless, with confidence.
