FS/FT: Hot Rodded Dirnt J neck! Black & Maple!

Sign in to disble this ad

Dirnt Signature body acquired from TB'er DarkHorse.
  • BA-II slotted
  • Vintage Vibe 10% overwound, Alinico 3 split P Pickup
  • Vintage Vibe Split Coil 51 Precision
  • Volume, Volume
  • Warmoth Jazz neck with Tele Headstock
  • HipShot Ultralite Lic. Tuners (pulled from a Lakland Skyline)
  • New Chromes
  • 9 lbs

Setup for low action, no buzzing. Bass plays like a dream and sounds fantastic. The overwound pickup is a little dark and wooly, the 51 P style provides some attitude! Kinda like an SB-2...

Cosmetic Flaws.
1 body scratch by the control plate.
The tuners are a re-mount and there are 8 extra holes on the back of the headstock. Easy enough to fill if it bugs you.
The neck pocket was buggered up when I got the body. I cleaned it up so it's a good fit and the neck joint is super strong. The Warmoth fretboard extension hides the slight gap.
Headstock ding at the very top. Classic cymbal ding.
All the flaws are cosmetic and don't affect playablility, stability or tone in any way -but in the interst of full disclosure, there you have the bad with the good!

I have a little more than $650 in parts.

$500 in gig bag plus freight @ actual

A temporary price adjustment. For this week of 2/14/11 through 2/18/2011 - I'll drop to $450 in gig bag plus freight at actual. Got my eye on a Hutch Hutchinson model UBass and it's making me shake my hips in anticipation! Blue Hawaii indeed :-) After 2/18/2011 - the price goes back up!

Trades considered.

Hey!

Don't be afraid to make a trade on offer on this one... I'm pretty deep in basses and have another build I'm finishing up so unless it's a really cool bass I'd prefer something else ...

Got nothing to trade you, but I saw this one on the Portland Craigs and have been drooling over it.

Can't believe it's not been sold yet.

I'm awaiting a tax return to make a new bass purchase, but this one's a little outta my league unfortunately.

Bump, though, for an Oregon bass brother with a cool piece of kit to sell.

Ah, my thanks. Keep an eye on the Social forum, we have a pretty strong get together contingent in the. Area. Last time, I hosted at my home out in the gorge. We had folks from Newberg, to Redmond, to Seattle. It's a very cool group of guys with some killer gear. Hope you can make it next time around.

I do two to four of these basses a year. This particular bass came out really well. It is as good a player as my warhorse 83 P. That one is my baby though. I'll have another bass up in a while. Tobacco burst P with a J neck. 2003 WD body, threaded barrel bridge, Warmoth neck, Hipshots. I have to refin the neck first though.

Anyhow, keep an eye out for the next Portlandia GTG and meetup with the group!

Is there a Fender logo on the head? I can't figure out what this looks like - better pix please!

no Fender Logo. I have a J Bass one that I can include but ... as it is a Warmoth neck on a Fender body, I'm somewhat opposed to putting the decal on myself. There is a mis-represenation thing that I would rather not participate in ... The headstock is a Tele rather than the typical J/P headstock. As the Dirnt is based on the 51/54 body that morphed into the Tele, to me that made sense ... that is also why I chose the 51 Precision style pickup rather than a J at the bridge. That and the 51 P style pickup has a little more 'tude

of course another way of looking at it is that the Fender Custom Shop wishes they could turn out necks as good ... so I'd kinda be defacing the Warmoth neck :-) This is a really, really nice neck.

I'll be happy to do further pic's - what in particular would you like to see ?
