This bass is destined to hide in my closet as I've gone back to 4's and I'm staying there. I asked a few of you regarding trades recently, and I think the best thing for me to do is put it to the board. I've had this bass for about a year, and it's seen 20 or so gigs. Very minor swirling & 1 finish ding I could hardly photograph. Definitely a 9.?/10.
Here are the details:
Kinal SKB-5
- Alder Body
- Flame Maple Top
- Pau Ferro Fretboard
- 35" Scale
- Kinal Proprietary Preamp
- Active / Passive + many many pickup & switching options
- Approx. 9.5 lbs on the bathroom scale
- 18mm spacing at the bridge
- Hipshot hardware
- Gator case in VTG condition - just a few scuffs.
Trades Considered - Try me - don't mind if I politely say "no":
First of all - basses must be 4's for obvious reasons
I already have a burst Jazz ('09) so I don't need one of those...
No Cabinets - I'm loaded with those...
- Lull 4's,Vintage Jazz's, Nash's - or similar
- SVT Classic or VR (Preferred) - USA only, Mesa 400+, Shuttle 9+cash, Streamliner 9 (never hurts to ask)
Cash Price $1,250 shipped CONUS. I'll stay firm on this price, and if you buy the bass you'll know why. Don't need to sell, but I like to use my gear live, and the Kinal will end up in the closet.

Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions!
(Edit: Just noticed it's also in my avatar - sorry about the rockstar pose...)

This bass is easily on par with $2K plus basses as far as build quality, playability and tonal vibrance. It's going to make someone VERY happy! |

Hoping all is well with you!
Shel

Where does it land as far as tonal character?

Just kidding.
The pickup configuration gives this bass a lot of tonal variation. One of the things I liked was being to go from a P-Bass to a MM vibe in a heartbeat between songs. If I had to give an overall feel to the tone I would say it has some "bite" and therefore would lean toward MM. God it's warm & fat, though. The B is absolutely killer.
Seriously, if someone buys this for cash - I'd like Mike to build the same bass in 34" scale 4 string....
I hope this helps. I'll try to find a sound clip that would be "meaninful" - IOW somewhat dry.
Cheers,

Cheers, | I may have a sound clip that I can post here later this evening. I'll see what I can find. I'd also like to have Mike Kinal build me a 34" version of this bass. I really do miss it! |

Let me know which one and I'll think on it. Are the specs the same as listed on the site?

That's the best I can tell you. I'm sure we could get more details from Mike himself. He answers email pretty quickly.
BTW, I believe this is a 2003.
Thanks
