I have a fun little Jazz here I need to sell. It's an early 90s Japanese-made "Silver Series" Squier bass and man is it light! Q serial # puts it in one of the later batches of Japanese Squiers around 1994. As most TBers already know, Japanese Squiers from the 80s/90s were light years ahead of anything Squier has done since then (in Korea, Indonesia, China etc). I bought this on a whim, put a Warmoth fretless neck on it, then decided I'm going to put my fretless neck on a custom Warmoth Dinky J body instead.
It's definitely used, but not abused. Frets have some wear, a little fingerboard wear, back of neck finish was sanded down almost, but not quite, to bare wood (feels very smooth and fast).
Body in pretty good shape with some nicks and dings. Needs a new nut but I plan on replacing that before I sell it. Has skunk stripe on the neck and external grounding wire from bridge pickup to bridge.
Tuners exhibit worn chrome, some dings, I had to straighten one of them out when I got it and put a horizontal dent in it in the process. I bought a replacement set of Fernandes bass tuners from madbassplaya but the plates on the Fernandes tuners are bigger than those on the stock tuners. They could be used on this bass, but will require drilling/modification which I didn't feel like doing. Nontheless, I could throw these replacement tuners in
for free if you feel like modding the headstock to make them useable. If you want them, that is.
The thing is
super light, probably the lightest J-bass I've ever played. I do not know the exact weight. I am guessing it's probably basswood but it really resonates well and honestly makes quite an awesome fretless. The sunburst finish is one of the nicest I've seen.
I'd take
$350 shipped lower 48, o.b.o. for it. Comes with a cheapo gig bag, no case. Brand new heavy gauge Ernie Ball flatwound strings if you want them (I love these strings so I'd be happy to keep them if you don't want them.) The bass is not put together at the moment, and is at my guitar player's house with the fretless neck still on it. I could ship as soon as I have a chance to go over there and put it back together but that may not be until Saturday.
