FS/FT: Mike Lull 5 / Quilted Maple Top

Sign in to disble this ad
Sold!

This is great looking and sounding Mike Lull 5 I picked up a few months ago. I also have a bad case of "gotta-have-something-else-itis" and need to make room for any additions. Here's the dope:

*One piece maple neck, RW fingerboard, 24 frets, 35" scale

*Beautiful amberburst quilted maple cap

*Alder (?) body...I think

*Hipshot tuners and "A" bridge

*Dunlop straplocks

*Bart pickups / pre

*Volume, blend, mid, stacked treble / bass, 3-way mid selector switch

*Condition: 9 / 10 (see comments below)

*Weight - ~8.5 lbs

*Gigbag in very good condition

The bass is in very good / excellent condition. There is a clearcoat ding on the back contour and slight scuff on the lower leading edge of the headstock. Other than that, there is minor players' wear but that's about it. As you can see, it looks stunning and is one of the most comfortable basses in the stable. If it doesn't sell, I won't be heartbroken.

I'm asking $1400 shipped and that includes a 48 hr. right-of-refusal / return option. I'll also consider all trade offers for lightweight (<9lbs) fiver's. This includes trade + cash on your end or the Lull + cash for an up-trade provided its something I really want. Please PM me with any questions, comments, or offers.

Riis

If it's standard Lull then it's like Fender 5ers, 18mm. Perfect for me!

The neck is very slim front-to-back, moreso than a comparable Metro...I've owned both and really don't have a preference. The spacing is 18 mm and the A bridge's variable spacing gives you a little wiggle room. The real kicker on this thing is the 3-way mid selector as it has a pronounced effect on the low-end voicing. I'm gonna guess the points are 250, 500, and 850 hz or thereabouts.

Bump for an awfully good breed of cat and what I'm sure is a terrific instrument. If I didn't have a bunch (four?...really?!?) of Lulls in the stable, I'd be sweating bullets right now. One of mine has the Bart pickups & pre as well, and the combo is ferocious. FWIW, I'm guessing this is the NTMB-F pre. If so this makes Riis very, very close to being spot-on: 250 - 500 -800.

The most underrated, underpriced, highest quality, best sounding basses out there!
I think Lulls are the top of the heap; perfect necks, perfect construction, incredible sound and wonderful customer service.
This is a steal at $1400

Riis:

How does this one compare with the CS+ as far as neck width/thickness, profile, weight, sound, etc.?

The neck has a thinner profile but the width feels about the same. The rosewood has a nice attack but not quite what the CS's wenge produces. Same holds true for the varied woods mated with their respective elex. The Lull, IMO, is a little more "polite" and transparent t/o the range. The Lull is also ~3/4 lb. lighter than the Century. I've owned / played more than a handful and found all to be consistent in terms of tone and playability...no dogs in the bunch.

Lulls are my preferred 5 stringers by a good margin. I'm so close to pulling the trig, but my finances would be in dire need until I got rid of some gear.

Seriously, I've owned several Lulls over the years and live just a few miles from Mike's shop. This bass is incredible and the price is just a steal. I just don't get why these basses don't have a better resale value. They're incredible!

Maybe the new and improved pics in post #1 will get people all squirmy.

Not that this helps but I'd sure like to snag a lower-end Dingwall ABZ or ABI...but not a Combustion as I already gotz one.

Still available. To sweeten the deal for local lurkers, I'll throw in a 27" ProScan color TV with working remote and original manual. I have no further need as I snagged a nicer Toshiba from my neighbor's trash...I'm not kidding.
