I've gone back to using a 4-string as my main bass. Plus, I prefer basses with pickguards, but I don't want to put one over the beautiful quilted maple, so I'm thinking of offering this up for trade or for sale.
Specs and Info
The tone is just incredible. It's like a great Fender but masterfully built and Plek'd with amazing action. Mike Lull spec'd Seymour Duncan pickups with Aguilar OBP-1 18-volt pre, Vintage Tone control, beautiful birdseye maple fretboard, 35" scale, 9.25 lbs. They call it an M5 21-Fret model, though it's exactly the same as the M5V but with no pickguard.
The control layout is this: V/V/T/Bass-Treble stack. The switches: top one is active/passive and the bottom one is a kill switch (mute) which is handy so you don't have to roll down both volume knobs. I use that all the time.
It's a player's bass, and I'm only the second owner, but it's got some gig wear. Mike Lull has taken a look at it himself and says the neck is remarkably straight and it has very little fretwear since the last fretboard dressing. The original owner installed a chrome neck pickup cover. I didn't like the look of it, so I threw it away. You can find one online for around 20 bucks or so.
Conclusion
According to Mike's retail pricelist, this bass lists at $4099 with the AAAAA quilted top and Aguilar OBP-1 18-volt pre. His selling price is 75% of list, which puts this bass at a street price of $3025. With the $200 mint/never-gigged Mono gigbag I'm looking for $1750, but open to offers. If you don't want the gigbag, no prob.
Open to cash offers and trades for other basses. No preferences at this point; I'm pretty open.
