Not too sure about this one. I’ve been a Modulus fan for a long time now, but I find myself grabbing for my Laklands more because they fit better with the music I’m playing ATM.
This is likely one of the more unique Modulus basses you have run across.
The skinny:
* 1995 Modulus Quantum 5
* No truss rod
* Honey burst finish over figured maple
* 35’ scale
* THEE BEST “B” string I have ever played
Upgrades:
* Mike Pope 3-band preamp
* Volume/vintage tone control stack
* Pickup blend
* Treble, mid, bass cut and boost
* 3 switches
* mid range frequency selector
* active/passive
* coil splitter= single coil/both
It plays great and sounds fantastic. She is a true tonal chameleon. Can sound mellow and sweet or more aggressive by splitting the coils, etc.
Condition:
* 2 small impressions NOT through the clear above the neck pickup
* a small ½” finish crack on the lower horn
* some rust on the neck bolts (was there when I bought it, likely from improper storage)
* some light scratches near the controls, a small amount of finish came off the switch nut during installation
* light overall player wear
* overall condition 8.5-9 out of 10
Full disclosure:
o this is a non-truss rod model. The action is medium low. It can go slightly lower, but not much with its current strings.
o The DR Lo-Riders that are on it are brand new and have a higher tension than some other strings.
o The action will likely be able to be lowered further with strings of a lighter gauge or less tension
o It plays perfectly for me and has never been an issue. Just letting everyone know up front: if you are looking for ultra ultra-low action, this isn’t your bass.
Cash price is $1500 shipped CONUS as is trade value. I will ship internationally at the buyer’s expense. The preamp and pickups plus installation cost me nearly $600.
As far as trades go, I am looking for 5 string basses (ONLY 5's) and cabinets. Not too much of an effects guy, but want to try a VT Bass. I could also use the newer version of M-Powered Pro Tools.
Price includes the original hard case. A leather Modulus gig bag is available for $75 more, or $25 more without the case.
I have 100% eBay feedback (697 of them) as bassmart1.
I treat people like I want to be treated, period.
