PRICE DROP! FS/FT: MusicMan Sub 5--custom red metal flake finish by Marty Bell!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought this bass a couple of months ago from a fellow TB'er. Basically, I just wanted to check out the finish in person. I had been admiring Marty's work (www.martybellfinishing.com) for a while and was thinking about using it on an upcoming custom bass. The finish is definitely amazing, but the bass isn't for me. I've never owned a 'Ray before and I'm basically a total headless convert at this point, so this was mainly just an experiment.

The bass looks completely amazing. The condition is 9.5 out of 10. There are a couple of minute dings on the very tip of the headstock, but that's it. The finish is stunning in person. Very deep, very lively. The way it reacts to light is just mesmerizing. Other than the finish, the bass is stock. Two band active eq.

It has no case. The previous TB'er disassembled it and shipped the neck in one box and the body in another. I'm up for that or just packing it up nice and sending it all together. I'm also open to purchasing a gig bag and sending that way for added cost.

I'm only interested in shipping in the US or Canada. International is just a hassle for me and I never know what the cost is going to be. Obviously, price will change if I need to buy a gig bag first. BTW, $600 plus shipping is the same price I paid a couple of months ago, and since the bass hasn't changed a bit since it arrived, I figured that was a good starting point.

As for trades, I'm only interested in 5-string, headless, non-paddle shaped basses. Obviously, I'm happy to add cash for higher end basses.

I'm reusing the pics from the original sale, but I'm happy to take more if anyone wants something different. Feel free to ask questions, etc.

12/3/10--PRICE DROP! So, after starting at $600 plus $50 shipping, I'm lowering the price to $600 SHIPPED!

Thanks,
Sean

Beautiful bass.

I have a couple of Marty Bell sparkle refins in my collection, one of which is a copper sparkle S.U.B.!

Pictures don't even come close, Marty's sparkle finishes must be seen to be believed, the best ever in my experience. Sunglasses highly recommended.

Is this 2-band EQ similar to the vintage 2-band, or does it have middle detents and sound more like the 3-band preamp without a mid pot?

No middle detents. I don't have any specific info on the electronics, but it's definitely active and stock. Sounds like bass and treble boost only to me.

Well, this sux that I just recently traded a non-paddle shaped headless away, and now all I have is a paddle shaped one to get rid of.....

Love the bass - good luck!

Hmmmm..... with my trans green graphite and gold flake basses, this red sparkle would complete my 'Christmas Collection'...

That would leave you up the creek with a paddle. Great finish btw.

I can't believe this bass is still available. I'd be all over this if I didn't have too many basses that no one else wants...

I know! I can't believe it's hanging around this long. The price isn't much higher than a stock one and it's cheap when you factor in the cost of a Marty Bell sparkle finish!

I have no idea, but maybe this will get things moving. Price drop to $600 shipped in the continental US. That's as low as it goes. If nothing happens this week, I'm putting it on consignment at my local Music Go Round.
