FS/FT (new pix) El Toro natural body black headstock ($850 or an ASAT or L2K)

Sign in to disble this ad
Original case (Brown inside)
Original chip but I am throwing in a newer TI chip
I am the third owner the previous owner had the bass since 85

All the electronics are good with the original colored switches.

*******Correction: It is not 1-5/8" at the nut
It is 1-11/16 at the nut*********
Rosewood fretboard.
There are two brown lines on the back of the neck otherwise everything is awesome the marks are visually there but you cannot feel them there is no mar to the feel of the neck in that spot. I feel pretty dumb that I didn't notice the additional brown marks at the bottom as well all these brown marks are obviously from a latex guitar stand.

I am putting a $850 fs on it but I would prefer a trade for a L-2000 or L-2000E or ASAT I didn't buy this to flip for $ I was hoping to have someone open their G&L bass vault and lay one on me.

top loaded controls (except if its an ASAT)
1 5/8" at the nut
preferably a maple board
Older super HI GAIN preamps

I am not as concerned about pretty just hi gain and bass
example: remember that travesty of an L2K on the bay with the whammy bar? We can work something out
Hog?
slotted pole pieces?
ugly routs?
Neon green?
bring me your freaky L2ks

I still can't believe I bought, owned, changed the battery and the IC without looking at the bottom! I'm going to let this ride out the week.
Sorry the trade requirements are so specific but I figure since I don't care about the paint jobs it balances out.

Trade interests
Top loaders and heavy basses prefered
1 5/8 or wider

if you want it to be cheaper I can switch out the OHSC for a nice HSC
if yours is something you deem to be of higher value give a shout.
Thank you for the kind offers thus far.
I would also take in partial trade
v4 412 cab(s) (limit 2)
v4 head
eventide pitchfactor
peavey mk III bass head(s) (limit 4)
peavey 2x15 cab (limit 4)
peavey vtm 120

I received my Aug 2010 issue of Vintage Guitar in the mail and on pg 68 there is an article about the El Toro.
This works out better for me than when I was planning on bidding on a t-40 and then when VG ran an article on it and the price shot up $150.
Two quotes
".. Some natural-finish examples had black headstocks, an in-house designation for instruments displayed at a NAMM show."
and
"Overall less than 1,200 (El Toros) were made"
since the person that sold it to me said he bought it from the original owner in 1985 I'll see if I can dig up some info.
And I'll get that setup instruction page scanned for everyone by tomorrow.
I can email people copies on request to facilitate easy printing.

If no one is ready to give up their basses then I am fine with outright sales.
I'll knock off $50 and I keep the OHSC and send "El Toro" in an equivalent HSC.
Still open to trades
top loading L2Ks
ASATs
will take money off of total for
Eventide Pitchfactor
Peavey Mark III head or heads (limit 2)
Peavey 2x15 cab or cabs (limit 4)

I was mistaken the neck is 1-11/16
not 1-5/8

I am open to any and all deals, trades partial trades heavy metal looking basses etc.

If nothing happens by Sunday morning I'm going to put it on consignment at a local store in the afternoon.

Mannnn, if this was a maple fretboard, this would've been a done deal!
I'm still pondering, not leaving you in the dark

It may sound like I'm just making this up but even with rosewood this bass has a pronounced top end because of the pickups. As much snap if not more than a maple necked L2000.

+1 on not needing a maple board. There is so much snarl in a Toro, that maple begins to start sounding thin.

Free "gotta get Sonny a Tookay" bump!

On trade-ins the only crucial thing is that
the L2K or ASAT is 1-5/8" (or larger) at the nut.

the "druthers" list would be
top loader
maple fretboard
heavy

At the Sanford & Sonny Home for Wayward G&L Basses
(S.S.H.W.G.L.B.)
We are accepting of:
routs
ugly paint jobs
wear, tear and abuse
modifications
inlays
trems
sustainiacs
blood stains
built in flame-throwers
any other stupid stuff you or "your friend" did to it.

El Toro is still for sale and it now on the "top shelf" rack behind the counter at Atomic Music in Beltsville MD.
If anyone knows the owner of that L-2000e on eBay that lives in hyattsville
send em my way.
What a great Father's Day present!!!
