Okay, so down to business! This is a one-of-a-kind finish NJ5 that Carey and Co. built as a shop bass. My understanding is that it was never intended for sale, but Carey did eventually sell it, and it wound up with me via at least one other TBer. It was originally loaded with a customized Audere preamp, but that one has since been changed to the current production unit (more later on this).
The bass was damaged in shipment to me -- it suffered some cracks in the top around the volume and balance pots. So, back to Carey it went for repairs. It was fully repaired by placing a wood backer behind the controls and glueing it up with CA glue. While it was there, I had them replace the prototype Audere with the new version of the 4-band Audere preamp (don't remember exactly why). Completely stable and no issues since.
Why sell/trade, you ask? No particular reason, just looking for something else. I've also talked myself into the idea of getting rid of it (see Caveat #1 above) and JIC that doesn't work out, I figure now is a good time before I change my mind. This has pretty much been my "go-to" bass since I owned it, but I've recently acquired a Roscoe with an AMAZING neck and the SKB3005 is fast becoming my #1.
