This bass probably isn't for you. You probably can't handle how awesome and ruthless it is. For those of you who prefer something more interesting, read on...
We have here a great specimen of a Nordy bass. Some of you know the operation is scaling down and Carey's going to be making fewer basses. Maybe I'm in idiot for doing this, but I've done a lot of stupid things, so I've already forgiven myself.
- VJ5 Modern, 21 frets, 34.5" scale
- Swamp ash body, natural finish. Nice grainage
- Madagascar rosewood fingerboard (resembles Brazilian rosewood more than Indian)
- Passive Nordstrand Big Singles, 60s position
- Vol/Vol/Tone layout
- Currently wired with a Stellartone tone control, 16 point notched. Original tone control pot included. I love this thing.
- On/off mute switch (much more convenient than rolling off 2 volume controls. I like 2 volumes for more subtle pickup blending. Indispensible for me.)
- "Producer switch." Yeah, it does nothing at all. It's for that producer who wants you to change the sound. Then you flip the switch and go "How's that? Better?". "Yeah man, I like that setting better." For all the Tommy Tedescos and Leland Sklars in us. For what it's worth, it's the only Nordy in existence that has this special mod.
- Between 8 and 9 lbs. Carey called this one "stupid light". It's one of the lightest ones ever, as far as I know.
- Bootsy Collins' autograph on the back of the headstock. If you want, I'll give you mine, too.
- BEST neck in the business
Overall excellent condition. 2 small finish cracks at the neck joint. Not in the wood, don't worry. A small scratch near the tone pot. For full disclosure, I had to extend some of the wiring when the tone pot was installed. It's not as clean looking as Mo's work, but it's in there good. Plays awesome. Currently at a medium setup. Tonally, I'd say it has a very complex midrange, very growly, but with both pickups, some seriously fat low end. Imagine a nice IPA, slightly biting, but very satisfying. What? No active preamp? Nope, because I think it "breathes" really well without it. And that output is HOT. Personally, along with others, I think Big Singles sound best passive. The neck pickup does a pretty close P-Bass than your typical single coil neck. And that bridge pickup is FAT.
Not too interested in trades, as I'm gonna be super picky. Looking for more 70s jazz -style stuff (and I KNOW there are a good number of Nordies out there that fit this!). But feel free to run by anything. I'm actually nicer than this post makes me out to be.
$1980 paypal'd and shipped with a Pro-Tec gig bag to anywhere in the lower 48. ALSO, I'll be at Bass Player Live this weekend and if anyone's there, I can bring it along and deliver it. I was born in 1980 and I'm about to have a daughter, so I thought it was a cute number.

Sound clip (sorry lots of effects, and just a studio rough live take, but you can hear the clean sound during the verses):
