FS/FT: Peavey Cirrus 5-string - walnut/bubinga

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD!!! Price drop: $750 shipped SOLD!!!

I am selling, or potentially trading, a MIA Peavey Cirrus 5-string bass. This one is the walnut body and a nicely figured bubinga top with an oil finish. It has a walnut neck w/ maple stringers and a pau ferro fretboard. It has the original VFL pickups and the stock 3-band EQ w/ fixed mids. 24 frets and 35" scale. Adjustable string spacing on the bridge, currently set at about 17-17.5mm. Weight is a reasonable 9-9.5 lbs, not too heavy at all and very nicely balanced. Comes with original Peavey hardshell case, which is in decent working condition. All electronics are noise-free and in perfect working order. Action is set low to medium-low, it could probably go lower but I like to dig in a little bit so I have it set it little higher than some Cirrus' I've played where the action is crazy low. No issues with the truss rod or any other issues that would effect adjustability or playability.

Now, for the bad news...this a not a mint bass. It had a number of scratches in the oil finish. Most of these are not visible when the bass is in the playing position. They are located on the back of the body, the back of the neck, the underside of the headstock, and the lower horn. The damage on the lower horn is the most visible, with some scratching and what look like a blue smudge on the tip of the horn. The scratch on the back of the neck is up higher on the neck and you can feel it when you run your hand up and down the neck, but I've never noticed when playing and I play that high on the neck all the time. I have tried to photograph all the damage, and I think the flash catches it well enough to be seen in the photos. The first pic did not have flash and is the best representation of the actual color and figuring of the bass. The flash is used in the other photos to show the condition more accurately. Here are the photos (Fender P/J in first pic is NOT for sale):

Some damage pics:

I love the tone of this bass, but I've come to realize that 35" scale just isn't for me. The scale length on this bass is less noticeable than some other 35" scale basses I've played, like Spectors, but it's noticeable enough for me to want to switch to either a 34" scale, or a multi-scale, like Dingwalls, which are a little more ergonomic IMO. Additionally, the output of this bass is a little strong for some of my pedals. Sale price is $750 shipped.

For trades, I am interested in the following 5-string basses:
- Dingwall Combustion
- EBMM Stingray 5 (must be under 10.5 lbs)
- EBMM Bongo 5 (single H preferred, but open to any pickup config)
- Warwick Corvette FNA Jazzman
- Fender Jazz 5 of some sort (Am Std or Am Dlx)
- Pedulla Rapture J2

Feel free to PM with any offers or questions regarding the bass. If there are any additional pics you would like to see, I will do my best to take them.

I own this same Cirrus wood combination, the best wood combo IMO. It is a tone MONSTER. A super sized beef burger of a bass guitar.

Whoever buys this bass will not be disappointed. Dont worry about those minor wear marks. That walnut can take a beating and will clean up well with a fresh rub of oil.

bump for an awesome bass.

My old Cirrus 6er was this combo of woods. Super clean tone that could be tweaked into just about anything. I do prefer my wedge/walnut 5 string for its low-ness, but these Cirrus' are really the best thing Peavey offers these days.

Double Agent--I am interested in your bass but I have a couple questions... How worn are the frets? Are you the original owner?

I have a 99 fender deluxe 5 string that I've had for a year now. Recently bought a Ray34, Sterling and I should have used the mone to buy what I want, a peavy. I have a mtd grendel that I am probably going to keep but the Fender, I might trade. It has been giged by the previous owner, so it has some belt rash and dings underneath the body, but it good shaper overall. The frets are good, neck is good and the electronics are the John Shur and are good. I want a Smith, can't afford a Smith so peavey is the next thing. I only play in church and don't need four basses, I really don't need three but if you want to consider, let me know. If interested, I might trade the ray34 and some cash.
