What we have here is a bass that has been played, and with good reason, it plays and sounds great. However it is also somewhat cosmetically challenged as a result of its time on stage.
It’s a 1990 Pedulla MVP-5 that was originally finished in gloss black. As you can see from the photos this bass has a lot of “character” and there are worn spots pretty much all over it. The tuners had been turned sometime in the past (a la Warwick) but then returned to their original position resulting in some additional screw holes on the back of the headstock. The finish has cracked in several places on the body and there are numerous small dents and dings.
The good news is that the neck is perfect and there is minimal fret wear although I can’t really tell if it has been refretted or not. The fingerboard is in good shape with no noticeable wear. The electronics work fine and the original Bartolini pickups are hot and clear with their signature sound fully intact. The chrome hardware is in good shape and fully functional as is the brass nut.
I acquired this bass in a recent trade with the intention of getting it completely refinished and reconditioned by Michael Pedulla although that plan may have changed due to the fact that I have found a new MVP-5 that has caught my eye.
As a result I am offering this bass up for sale for only
$750.00 including a gig bag and shipping in the continental US. As you may be aware these basses normally sell in the $1,500.00 to $2,500.00 range used and new they are over $4K.
This is an opportunity to get a great 5 string that you don’t have to be concerned about damaging on gigs when your fans drag you into the mosh pit. Or if you’re like me, it’s a chance to buy a cheap, but sound, MVP-5 that you can send back and get it refinished in whatever color you want.
If I can’t find a new home for this one I’ll probably eventually send it back for a refinish job myself but right now I’m looking for a little cash to help enable me to buy this new MVP-5 I have found.
So that’s my story. Let me know if you are interested. I will consider trades but the truth is I already have enough basses and as always cash is KING!
