Thumbs up FS/FT - Pre-Fender '88 Kubicki Ex Factor

Relist and price drop - A feeler no more

I love this bass... have owned/played it for about 10 years, but it is time to change it up and go for something different. The Kubicki is super versatile and plays absolutely great but now I want to go with something more classic in a 4 or 5 string. I dig J basses. Price is $1500 + actual shipping/packaging cost.

Trade ideas: Something like a 4 or 5 string Jazz or P/J style bass ala Lakland, Lull, Sadowsky, Nordy, FCS. I like passive or active/passive electronics.

Serviced by Phil Kubicki's at his shop in Santa Barbara after I bought it, it is a player, but still in good condition. It does have surface scratching and a couple of dings. The electronics are flawless, frets are great, tuner/bridge system is great. I had Phil refinish the neck and when he shipped it back to me it was really hot in CA and some of the fuzz from my hard case stuck to two places on the back of the neck. Now these are just two discolored areas that feel slightly matte vs the rest of the neck. No big deal to me, but a new owner may want to refinish it.

I don't have the original case for it, which was tweaked beyond repair, but I do have a hard case that I cut out and modified slightly to accomodate the Kubicki body. I also have a RoadRunner padded gig bag if you'd rather have that.

Cash sale or trade... I take PayPal, Cashier's Check or Postal Money Orders. Haven't been on TalkBass for long, but I have been selling on eBay for more than 10 years with 100% positive feedback. Check out my profile here: eBay My World - madness1967

I had this up as a feeler, but that thread is now closed:

Wow, I'm exactly the opposite. I have 5 jazz basses, and looking for something different, like the kubicki. I don't have any thing like what your looking for. Great looking bass, I love blue.

playzabass -
Thanks! Yeah I really dig the finish and Phil told me that it was pretty unique when I spoke with him. He said he did maybe only a couple from that time period with that black blue metallic fade.

I'm always open to ideas so please pm me with any potential trades... I'm intrigued by your stable of 5 Js!

Thanks pablomigraine.

Just a quick note to let you all know that I'll be out of town with in-an-out Interwebs contact for the next 5-6 days, so I may be slow responding to posts and PMs.

Many offers and potential deals in the works, but nothing in stone yet. All PMs replied. Still in the boonies with intermittent Web access.

Would you be interested in trading for a Stu Hamm Signature model Fender Urge (1993)? If you're not familiar with it, it's a hybrid type bass that has 3 pickups; the two Jazz pickups and the Precision pickup in the middle. There's a pickup blend knob that pans between all 3 pickups and a selector switch that allows you to chose to activate the Jazz pickups or the Precision pickup or all 3. There's also another switch that allows you to choose a passive operation or 2 other active presets or an off position. It's a very versatile bass. It's also 32" scale like the Kubicki. I also have a Hipshot d-tuner on the E string that can detune to whatever note you want. The color is blue, pretty much like your Kubicki. It's in good shape; maybe a little better than your Kubicki. I'm not totally committed to the trade, but I would like to see what the possibilities are. Before I got the Fender Urge, I was looking for a Kubicki. I like the Urge a lot, but I think I might like the Kubicki even more.
