FS/FT: Roscoe SKB 3006 SOLD!
$1200 (FIRM) Shipped CONUS
Up for sale or trade is a Roscoe SKB-3006 I bought from another TB’er here about a year ago. If you’re looking for a Roscoe 6-string but can’t fork out over $2,000, this is your opportunity. Despite some cosmetic issues, I think it's a fair price and will go no lower. I'm already taking a huge loss on this bass.
THE GOOD:
This is a beautiful, high-quality bass, but it does have some cosmetic issues, described in the next section. None affect the functionality of the bass. It has a Bartolini/Bartolini system that sounds great for just about any type of music. It excels at jazz/fusion. Think Jimmy Haslip. This bass cops his tone very well. I’d say it has the traditional “Roscoe tone” and a great, thunderous B-string. It has some unique custom abalone inlays on the fretboard and headstock that simply must be seen in person to be appreciated. It has exceptional playability with low action and no buzzing. The only reason I’m getting rid of it is because I really have no need for a 6-string anymore.
THE UGLY:
This bass has several cosmetic issues. I’m guessing the bass is around 12 years old and has definitely been played. First, there are some hairline cracks in the ebony fretboard around the 20th-24th frets. According to the previous owner, these never expanded when he owned it and have never moved on me. They are small and difficult to notice unless up close. Based on research I’ve done, cracks in ebony boards are common and usually happen early in the board’s life. They typically don’t move once the board has aged. It has some cracks in the thick clearcoat. A couple are near the tone controls and there are several smaller ones on the back of the headstock by the tuners (these would not photograph). These are purely cosmetic and are no deeper than the clearcoat. There is also a decent sized ding in the clearcoat on the edge of the bottom of the body. Finally, there is some unusual wear or fading in the finish in the curve of the lower horn. I’ve done my best to photograph all these issues in the pics below. Luckily, none are very noticeable unless you’re really looking for them. In playing position from a few feet away, the bass looks perfect.
