I'm bored at work today, so I thought I might rescue this old post, and see if the climate has changed. Here is what I posted last Christmas. Oh yeah, and in honor of my birthday, I have lowered my price!
Brief history. Months before Line 6 screwed their dealers, and slashed the price from $1200 street, to $500, I answered an ad in Craigslist. A former Line 6 employee had a practically new bass for a "great deal". He tells me, and I still have no reason to doubt him, that this was part of a test batch off the production line, to be evaluated before full production began.
It turns out they made a few changes before the regular production run. This bass has a satin smooth finish on the neck. I believe all the production basses had poly finished necks. This bass has open gear clover leaf tuners, production basses have schaller/hipshot/grover type sealed tuners. And this bass has no decal on the headstock. It's not as if one were removed, there never was one.
What this bass has that remained the same, are all the electronics and models that were in the production basses.
Everything works, neck and frets are great, truss rod and tuners are spiffy. All the knobs and pots and electronics are in perfect working order. This bass has not been gigged, but played in the home, and at about 6-7 jams. It plays very nicely, to my way of thinking.
There are many places to read about the modeling and sound of these basses, but I will add my .02 cents. I found, that of the models I was familiar with, about 15 of the 24, that they did an excellent job of approximating the target, 60-90% of the real thing. What I consider to be far more important, is that I think the models mostly sound excellent, great tone in their own right. The standup bass is creepy. If you wanted to make this a one trick pony, put a fretless neck and some flats on it, it would nail the standup sound remarkably well, at least I imagine it would, based on how good it does with frets and roundwounds.
Why get rid of it? When I bought it, I had two basses, it was less than half the ebay price, and it was cool. It also felt very nice in my hands, it plays very easily, did I mention that. And I liked that it was unique, no decal and all, it made me feel special. I know anyone who plays it will feel special too........ trust me. Now I have 14 or 15 basses, I am running out of room, and I have grown to love my other instruments more than this one. There, I have admitted the truth, I like my Alembics, my custom viola, my Wishbasses, (yes, I even prefer my Wishbasses), and my BFR Stingray better than this bass. That doesn't make it a bad bass, it just deserves more love than I've got for it.
What I am offering: The bass, the original line 6 padded bag, the Line 6 DI/power supply, and original Planet Waves stereo cable. I will ship this anywhere in the continental US.
What I want:
$600 $500 or a bass guitar. I have absolutely no idea what I would be willing to trade for, but when I see it, I will know. If you have something to trade that is worth more, that may not be a problem, as I have some money too.
There are a couple of nicks in the front, above the pickguard, that I have photographed. More pictures can be viewed here.
