FS/FT US Fender Precision '62 reissue V serial $900

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all. This is for sale, but some possible trades are listed below.
I recently picked this bass up from another Talkbass member and while it is everything that a pbass should be, I've realized that I need a jazz- width nut. I've been playing jazz basses for many years. If I play this bass for half a day my hands easily adjust to it and it feels awesome and sounds fantastic. But when I switch back to my trusty old Jazz it feels like a toothpick in comparison. Unfortunately I'm working in different projects all the time and need to have access to a wide variety of tones and feel comfortable from the get-go. and I'm not getting rid of my vintage jazz so this one should go to someone else.
the original thread is here:
FS/FT: Fender '62 Reissue Precision USA
Pics will be posted but here's some info:
alder body- sunburst
rosewood fingerboard
1.75 width at the nut
"V" serial # dates it to pre-2005-ish but exact dating is hard with these US reissues.
Holes have been drilled for the bridge cover (included)
Thumbrest was removed by me but is included
Original tweed case is included.
condition is very good- a few very small marks in the finish on the body invisible from a few feet away. Neck is pristine. Frets are at 90+% as the bass has had flat wounds for what I'm guessing is most of it's life. Frets were polished and re-dressed just before I picked it up from a local TB-er.
There is one dent the size of a pinky finger nail on the back of the bass (see photos) and there is some cracking of the finish near one of the screws on the neck plate. These are entirely superficial and in no way effect the functioning of the instrument. They are also on the BACK of the bass. Lastly there is a small amount of finish chipping around the holes for the bridge ash tray cover. Very normal, I'd say. Photos do not include the cover so you can see this clearly. I'd say that the front of the bass looks 95% new- even better with polish.
The bass sets up flat and straight pickup growls nicely and can do either a vintage James Jamerson sound or grind with rounds.
ONLY trades I would consider are:
MIJ P Basses + a little cash 1&5/8th and narrower
lakland skyline Glaub PJ with a 1.5" width nut

NEW trade ideas 8-30-10:
Crest CA9
Stewart World 1.2 (plus cash obviously...)

PM me if you are interested.
Thanks!
-Greg

Is your bass a 57 or 62 reissue???

The link is for a 62 and your post is titled as a 57...

Thanks,

K

Do you have any pics? It doesn't look like they work in the thread you posted.

I am taking myself off the waiting list. Just played a '62 RI. Very nice bass but the nut width is too much for me at 1 3/4"

Bump for pics- FINALLY

Full and front shots are attached to the first post. Here are more photos of the back. Please note the slight indentation and cracking in the finish around one of the screw holes in the neck plate:

Me, too. This bass is perfect in every other way for me. Lot's of folks prefer the 1.75" width. I'm expecting that this bass will make someone really happy.

Last pics

Here's pics of the bass in it's case wearing the ashtrays and showing the most recent bill of sale (for $1100) and the curly-Q vintage style instrument cable, also included:

my cat Rufus is not included and would really prefer that I didn't sell this bass Please note that the case is in good condition but has some scuffs in the faux-leather corners.

finish...

I think that is correct...the poly is thicker and harder than Nitro finish, correct?

Yep, that's typical of poly.

I'm really confused about which reissues have poly and which have nitro, but I'm guessing that only the most recent Fenders have nitro because of environmental laws and new(ish) equipment at Fender that filters or captures the bad stuff before they exhaust it out of the shop.

I'm tempted to make move on this. Nice stand-in for my '60p.

All US reissues are nitro finish over a thin poly basecoat and always have been as far as I know. The actual vintage basses were nitro over a harder base coat as well. Thusly this bass should have a nitro finish.

See, I'm totally confused on this. Is there any way to confirm the finish on this bass?

Absolutely. If it is a US reissue then it has a nitro finish. The components and serial number say it's a US so then it's nitro. You can check those specs with Fender but it has always been that way.

I stand corrected!

Thanks for speaking up on this topic- I have to admit I don't really know the difference. It seems like a thicker finish than on my E series MIJ jazz '62 reissue but now that I think about it- this bass is a sunburst finish and the MIJ is a painted finish so I'm sure they would have to be different.
This US reissue P that's for sale has not been modified in any way so I'm going with the Nitro finish. Sorry for my ignorance.
