FS/FT: US Lakland JOCS fretless Inca Silver - SILVER SURFER!

Sign in to disble this ad
Well I never thought I'd see the day . . .

This is my very beloved US Lakland JOCS fretless in Inca Silver - the infamous Silver Surfer. There are so many things to love about this bass:

One of a kind fretless JOCS / Dan Lakin era
Lightweight alder body
Quartersawn maple neck with outrageous flamage (see pix!)
Dark ebony fingerboard
Inlaid birdseye maple fretlines
Chisonic pickups
5 extra pickguards!! (WBW, BWB, Black Pearl, White Pearl x2, and Aluminum)
Chrome bell pickup cover
Creme US Lakland hardshell case

I am the second owner. I got it from markusbass (the original owner) in a trade (FT: US Lakland JOCS Fretless Feeler) and it's in EXACTLY the same shape it was in when I received it. It's damn near flawless. It never left my little home studio and I'm not sure it Markus ever gigged it - but I never did. I've never even had rounds on it. It is currently wearing a set of Chrome flats and has next to NO fingerboard wear.

This is an incredibly well built instrument. The quartersawn, graphite reinforced neck seems almost impervious to climate change and has never needed more than a very minor truss turn. The neck pocket is perfectly tight and the bass is light and super resonant. It sings and snarls with joyously low action and has incredibly blossoming sustain. It sounds just how you want your dream fretless to sound. The Chisonic pickups are a fabulous match - delivering buttery warmth, familiar single coil clarity, and heft to each note. Markus said that it weighed 8 pounds on his digital bathroom scale, but I'd put it closer to 9.

Right - so why on earth would you part with such an instrument? I'm just not playing it. This bass should be played into the golden years. It's crazy - it sits in my stable and waits . . . for YOU!!

PRICE DROP: $2299 shipped to your door CONUS!

Here are the trades I would consider:

US Lakland Hollowbody
Alleva Coppolo 4 string P or J
Sadowsky NYC Ultra Vintage J
70s Gibson Thunderbird
Mike Lull T-bass (T4)
70s Rickenbacker 4001
Hofner Club bass
Fender Mustang bass (+ cashola)
Jerry Jones bass (+ cash)

Enough jawin' . . . pix - PIX!!

And here's the $250 in pickguards included in the sale/trade. So many possible looks:

Oh man, Ian! I've always loved this bass. I wish like hell I played fretless so I might somehow be able to justify this beauty. Good luck with the sale!

That's the problem with being a poor boy who ended up with a couple of Lakland's. I know what I'm missing out on when a truly incredible one shows up. One of my favorite Lakland's here.

Man - that's a sweet bass. But I have to stick to my trade list or cashola.

Thanks!
